Job Summary:

Do you enjoy maintaining GMP records for quality, safety, compliance and more? Our Quality Control Specialist over Beverages may be the right role for you. We are looking for someone that has experience testing beverages such as beer, hard seltzers, hemp derived seltzers and more to ensure product is to spec, safe and to standard. Quality testing will be implemented by HACCP guidelines and includes but is not limited to PCR and microbial plating, potency analysis, heavy metals, solvents, and pesticides. The QC Specialist is accountable for all aspects of quality and safety performance, will ensure that objectives are attained in a cost-effective manner and that it is consistent with quality and safety requirements. This role will delegate authority to key front-line leaders in operations. They will also manage, coordinate, and direct functions involved in quality and safety of packaging, raw, lab materials, and finished goods.


Reports to: Chief Innovation Officer, Bayou City Hemp Company


Job Responsibilities including, but not limited to:

  • Proven experience and training in Microbial analysis including PCR and traditional plating,
  • Well versed in cGMP Lab practice protocol, qualifying vendors, Corrective Action Plans, Traceability, Cleaning and Sanitation Documentation, PM Documentation and document control thereof
  • Coordinating tasks between new product development (R&D) and implementing into production.
  • Utilizing Enterprise Resource Planning Software to create HAACP procedures and establish quality checkpoints and approvals.
  • Responsible for all Food Safety hazard analysis and monitoring records
  • Responsible for the ongoing development, implementation and management of all aspects of the quality program. Includes, but is not limited to, maintaining SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures), SSOPs (Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures) and product specification for all products.
  • Assist in the implementation of process evaluation and trend analysis regarding quality and safety.
  • Responsible as lead role for 3rd party audits.
  • Management of sanitation related tasks including working with chemical suppliers, controlling chemical usage, and in general ensuring that the facility and equipment are safe from potential food safety hazards.
  • Responsible for review of HACCP program (data entry, document reviewing, filing, CCP monitoring records, procedure development, calibrations, etc.)
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, from federal, state, and local agencies involved with food safety activities as well as GMP.
  • Maintain up-to-date records for compliance with HACCP regulations.
  • Champion ongoing employee training activities designed to keep employees knowledgeable and informed of SOPs, SSOP's, methods, and Good Manufacturing Procedures according to program needs.
  • Ensures that standards for personal hygiene are met and implements corrective actions where needed.
  • Ensuring applicable Environmental Testing is performed on time and documented in an organized fashion.
  • Maintain environmental and finished product testing program including ongoing laboratory testing of environment, raw materials and finished goods,
  • Works closely with the production team to ensure products adhere to Bayou City’s standard of safety, quality, and throughput.
  • Develops, recommends, and implements measures to improve quality and safety and ensures products match COA.
  • Follow Company standard operating procedures (SOPs) to produce high quality products.


Essential Job Functions:

  • Solid knowledge of quality and safety procedures
  • PCQI credentials desired, but not required.
  • HACCP credentials desired, but not required.
  • Food and beverage manufacturing experience highly desired.
  • Knowledge of cGMP guidelines and processes.
  • Knowledge of SQF guidelines and processes, preferred but not required.
  • Experience with analytical equipment for the quantification of cannabinoids, particularly THCA/THC and CBDA/CBD preferred but not required
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements for operating plants
  • Ability to explain training material to our operating staff through effective communication
  • Maintains regular daily office hours with flexibility to work into the evening when necessary.
  • Present self in a neat, clean and professional manner always throughout the workday and/or whenever present with potential customers.
  • Ability to be agile
  • Understand and follow all safety protocols.
  • Monitor system operations and perform tests as required.


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in microbiology, chemistry, food science, brewing science or related field
  • 2-3 years' experience in a quality control or laboratory role
