A Patent Engineer manages the entire life cycle of patent development. They identify new inventions with patent potential and conduct initial interviews with inventors to understand and document the invention's scope.

Collaborating with the design team, the Patent Engineer ensures there are no concerns related to copyright or existing patent infringements. They prepare all necessary materials for the invention disclosure, including drafting descriptions, designing drawings, and verifying accuracy. Once the details are finalized, the Patent Engineer submits the invention disclosure to an external patent attorney for formal drafting.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate closely with R&D teams to ensure a steady flow of innovative ideas and invention disclosures.
  • Work with R&D, business managers, and marketing to ensure that patent filings for commercially significant inventions are of high quality.
  • Support R&D engineers in preparing invention disclosures in both English and Chinese, reviewing them to ensure their quality.
  • Stay informed about the U.S. patent landscape, particularly related to servers, and provide IP advice for business development and localization efforts.
  • Monitor competitor products in the U.S. to identify potential patent infringements.
  • Collaborate with internal and external patent attorneys to manage patent applications and responses to Office Actions, reviewing the quality of both.
  • Deliver tailored IP training to business teams at various levels to enhance IP awareness and build foundational IP knowledge and skills within the organization.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering field, preferably in Computer Science, or Information Technology.
  • Over 3 years of experience in a patent law firm or in-house IP department, with experience in a multinational company being a plus.
  • Fluent in both English and Chinese, with strong communication skills for interacting with R&D and other teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Capable of working independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Patent Agent or Patent Lawyer qualifications are preferred.
