Donor Relations Officer

Houston, TX


Our client, a youth and family focused Houston non-profit, is seeking a Donor Relations Officer, who will be responsible for the development and implementation of strategies related to the identification, qualification, engagement, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major gift level donors. This role is responsible for meeting annual revenue targets and will work directly with the Director of Donor Relations to execute and achieve comprehensive major gift strategies that meet established financial goals.


Responsibilities:

  • Actively manage a portfolio of 100-150 donors.
  • Utilize the existing structure to qualify major gift donors with no prior relationship to donor relations staff members.
  • Create and pursue individual goals for each donor in portfolio based on affinity, capacity, and previous giving history.
  • Create a personalized marketing and communication plan for each donor.
  • Work with program staff, finance, and marketing to secure appropriate project information to develop offers/proposals for donors.
  • Develop meaningful recognition for each closed major gift that strengthens relations and brings appropriate desired visibility to donor.
  • Track all donor interaction in donor database.
  • Learn about the organization’s programs and services and effectively communicate the mission to donors.
  • Provide required monthly reports that accurately reflect portfolio activity and performance.
  • Accompany board members, volunteers, Director of Donor Relations, SVP of Advancement, and/or CEO to donor meetings, as needed, with the goal of providing engaging visits with current and prospective major donors.
  • Work closely with the donor relations team to coordinate the flow of major donors qualified through the mid-level process into the major donor pool.
  • Participate in regular department meetings and provide progress updates on assigned portfolio and strategy to the Director of Donor Relations.
  • Assist with the coordination of advancement events and activities as needed.
  • Represent the organization in community events which are pertinent to the promotion and support of programs and projects as assigned.
  • Be prepared to represent the organization with public speaking in a manner that will promote awareness and support of programs as assigned.
  • Lead tours for individual prospects and/or interested groups.


Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree, preferred. CFRE is a plus.
  • 3+ years’ experience in non-profit fundraising
  • Knowledge of fundraising practices
