Job Description

Summary of position:

This full-time position reports to the Director of the Queens Forensic Psychiatric Evaluation Court Clinic (Queens FPECC) in the Division of Correctional Health Services. The Queens FPECC, located in the Queens County Criminal Court Building at 125-01 Queens Boulevard, Kew Gardens, is responsible for conducting court-ordered fitness to proceed evaluations of criminal defendants under CPL Article 730 and presentencing evaluations under CPL Article 390; preparing written reports in a timely manner for submission to the Courts; and providing courtroom testimony as necessary.


Responsibilities include:

  • Conduct court-ordered evaluations of criminal defendants and submit timely written reports to the Courts
  • Conduct psychological testing (intelligence, neuropsychological, personality, malingering, etc.) as needed
  • Provide teaching and supervision for clinicians in training
  • Participate in regular supervision with the Director of the Queens FPECC
  • Actively participate in staff meetings, clinic quality improvement projects, and continuing education
  • Remain aware of and in compliance with organizational policies and procedures
  • From time to time, as needed, conduct CPL 730 and CPL 390 evaluations in the other FPECC clinics (Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan)
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of the Queens Forensic Psychiatric Evaluation Court Clinic or the city-wide Director of the Forensic Psychiatric Evaluation Court Clinics

Department Preferences:

  • Excellent diagnostic and evaluation skills with particular attention to issues related to forming opinions about psycholegal questions
  • Excellent forensic report writing skills
  • Clinical experience working with forensic mental health populations
  • Experience in administering and scoring a wide range of psychological tests
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively and professionally with other disciplines
  • Proficiency with word processing programs and spreadsheet programs
  • Fluent in written and spoken English


Qualification Requirements:

  1. Education: Ph.D or Psy.D. degree
  2. Valid license and current registration to practice as a psychologist, issued by the New York State Department of Education


Minimum Qualifications

For Appointment to Assignment to Level II:

1. Valid license and current registration to practice as a Psychologist issued by the NYSED; or

2. Proof of passing licensing examination and proof that completed license application and all supporting documentation have been submitted to NYSED, which leads to licensure and registration, within six (6) months.
