Direct Support Professional

This is a part-time on-site role as a Direct Support Professional located in Severna Park, MD. The Support Professional will be responsible for providing support and assistance to an individual with physical and intellectual disabilities. Duties include promoting independence, assisting with daily activities, providing companionship, and implementing individual care plans. Examples of these duties include but are not limited to:


  1. Transporting to and from speech therapy appointments. Practicing speech at home with flashcards, reading, boom cards on a mini-iPad, reading, and holding conversations. 
  2. Transporting to and from Physical Therapy and exercising at home including gentle stretches in calves, knees, and hips 
  3. Occupational Therapy including exercising fingers by pulling objects out of putty, handling grip clips, and stretching fingers manually
  4. Completing hygiene tasks such as shampooing hair, brushing teeth, washing face, cutting nails, and changing gauze around GT tube
  5. Transporting to activities such as bowling, plays, museums, library, shops, restaurants, and movies
  6. Advocating for her at medical appointments
  7. Supporting the building of friendships and confidence
  8. If a CNA- administering medications
  9. Advocating for her during all her outings

 

Qualifications

  • Experience in Human Services and Training
  • Strong Interpersonal Skills and Communication abilities
  • Knowledge of Physical Disabilities
  • Ability to assist with training programs
  • Empathy and patience in working with individuals with disabilities
  • Certification in CPR and First Aid is a plus
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Maryland Driver’s License and clean driving record
