Position Title: Single Point of Failure (SPoF) Manager
Location: Based at one of three plant locations in Roanoke VA, Pocatello ID or Rincon GA, 50% travel required
Job Overview:
The Single Point of Failure Manager is responsible for identifying, managing, and mitigating critical points of failure across a 24/7 operation in multiple manufacturing plants. This individual will ensure that all essential equipment and systems are safeguarded against failures, maintaining plant reliability and minimizing downtime. The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience from high-stakes environments such as medical facilities, military installations, airports, or similar, where understanding and preventing equipment failure is paramount.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee critical equipment across three plants, including vacuum pumps, motors, heaters, winding machines, cranes, and control systems, ensuring they remain operational at all times.
- Develop and implement preventative maintenance strategies to secure spare parts and backups for critical components.
- Monitor and manage power supply systems, ensuring redundancy with additional generators to handle unexpected surges or annual high-demand events.
- Maintain and test circuits and ensure the integrity of all electrical and mechanical systems, managing any single points of failure within each plant.
- Lead a team of managers and supervisors across locations to monitor and address potential failures in real time.
- Conduct regular plant tours and assessments to proactively identify vulnerabilities, checking for wear, hinge durability, and other long-term concerns.
- Ensure availability and functionality of HMI screens and other control systems, implementing standardized backup procedures where unique systems are in place.
- Oversee vibration monitoring for motors and manage overhead systems such as piping, ensuring no leakage or other risks that could lead to equipment downtime.
- Establish protocols for equipment troubleshooting and rapid response, enabling seamless operations even during unforeseen incidents.
- Facilitate knowledge-sharing and training for plant personnel to handle equipment issues with precision and care.
- Report regularly to upper management on plant reliability, maintenance activities, and potential risks.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Mechanical or Electrical preferred, or equivalent experience.
- 10+ years in a high-stakes manufacturing or plant operations environment.
- Strong understanding of equipment such as vacuum pumps, motor systems, power generation, and critical plant infrastructure.
- Experience in hands-on management and troubleshooting of complex systems and machinery.
- Exceptional attention to detail, with a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating potential points of failure.
- Willingness to travel 50% of the time across three plant locations to ensure operational consistency and reliability.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to coordinate cross-functional teams.
