Job Summary
Description

The Fluids Characterization group in GTF Geoscience seeks an experienced Geochemist to provide analytical and molecular chemistry expertise for a wide variety of projects involving exploration and development of both conventional and unconventional plays. The applicant must be capable of applying fundamental chemical principles and instrumentation to a wide range of research and technical service projects including biomarker interpretation, source rock compositional kinetics, and gas analysis. This individual must enjoy integrated projects involving close team collaboration with experts in unconventional resources, geophysics, geochemistry-basin modeling, stratigraphy, reservoir quality and engineering fields.

Job Description

Responsibilities may include:

  • Technical service work on multiple projects concurrently for multiple business units worldwide
  • Active involvement in shaping the research strategy and direction in subsurface technology
  • In-house instructing and consulting on petroleum system related issues
  • Developing novel integrated approaches to predicting fluid properties in unconventional reservoirs
  • Supporting drilling operations via program design, implementation and interpretation of results
  • Doing geochemical interpretation for a variety of applications
  • Ensuring good data quality from ConocoPhillips' geochemical vendors
Basic/Required:
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
  • Master's degree or higher in Geochemistry, other related field, or foreign equivalent
  • 7+ years of experience in petroleum geochemistry
  • Advanced understanding of microbiology, organic geochemistry, PVT analyses and biomarkers
Preferred:
  • 5+ years of experience with oil-source correlations, biomarker studies, and reservoir geochemistry
  • Proven ability to integrate large amounts of data and to distill out the geologic risks and opportunities
  • Demonstrated ability to perform geochemistry-based research
  • Ability to relate to business units with regards to geoscience needs for collaborative work
  • Resource play expertise, particularly characterizing fluid phase
  • Ability to progress multiple projects simultaneously
  • Actively seeks out a diverse group of people and organizations to collectively achieve business goals
  • Constantly searches for and implements new ways of doing business better
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Delivers results through realistic planning to accomplish goals
