Another Source's client, University of California, Los Angeles, is recruiting a Chief Privacy Officer to join their team in Los Angeles, California. This position has the potential for remote work within the United States.

The anticipated yearly salary range for this position is: $190, ,000 dependent on experience

What you will be doing:

As the Chief Privacy Officer (CPO) reporting to the Chief Compliance and Audit Officer, your role encompasses collaborating with key campus and University entities to address privacy-related matters, including policy, legislative, and regulatory changes, as well as emerging technological and social issues. You'll work closely with UCLA and UC System officials to develop and implement privacy policies. Your responsibilities extend to providing strategic direction for privacy initiatives affecting faculty, students, and staff, advising on campuswide and systemwide privacy strategies, and participating in committees like the Cyber Risk and Data Privacy Governance Committee and the UC AI Council.

Additionally, you'll oversee the third-party risk process regarding privacy, refining playbooks for purchasing privacy reviews, managing third-party risk in purchases, and reviewing data use agreements. You'll also advise on policy development and participate in the Campus Cyber Incident Response Team for data and privacy incidents, collaborating with Legal to recommend notifications to the Cyber Responsible Executive. You will focus on training and education, ensuring awareness of privacy responsibilities across the organization and delivering compliance training to various campus parties. Your role also involves privacy risk monitoring and compliance, where you'll identify operational risks, recommend process improvements, and monitor compliance with privacy agreements.

How you will be spending your time:

30% Provide expertise & strategy for privacy initiatives affecting faculty, students and staff

30% Oversee third party risk process as it pertains to privacy

20% Incident Response

What you will bring:

  • Skill in the collaborative exchange of ideas and information to jointly reach decisions or solutions.
  • Skills at policy development and interpretation.
  • Demonstrated ability to direct major projects requiring resources from - and across - many units by prioritizing tasks and estimating time, effort, resources and staff required for projects.
  • Detailed knowledge of public policy, legislation, technology and societal trends relating to information technology and privacy that may affect or influence the University or a campus.
  • Ability to scan a rapidly evolving landscape, identify issues that may affect the University, and synthesize implications of emerging patterns and trends.
  • Ability to prepare documents that are clearly written, well-organized, well- structured, accurate, complete and professional in appearance, and ability to develop and provide professional, accurate and well-organized oral presentations.
  • Ability to negotiate, facilitate and consult with faculty, researchers, campus executives and staff, including highly technical staff.
  • Ability to communicate status and results and manage expectations at all levels within the University.
  • Knowledge of and experience with advising on compliance with GDPR and local data protection laws, monitoring adherence to General Data Protection Regulation.
  • Knowledge and experience with advising on compliance with Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the campus and University culture, hierarchy and organizational structure.
  • Knowledge of and experience of advising on compliance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.
  • AIGP, CIPP, CIPM, CIPT or like certification.
