About the Position: Reporting to the Nurse Manager, the Lactation Consultant offers guidance to patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings. This role involves assessing and providing support for various breastfeeding issues such as latch difficulties, low milk supply, inadequate weight gain, and prematurity. Additionally, the Lactation Consultant collaborates with the interdisciplinary team and takes part in educating nursing and medical staff on lactation practices.
Work Schedule: This is a casual position with rotating day and evening shifts including some weekends.
Minimum Requirements: IBCLC certification is mandatory, or the ability to obtain it within 6 months of joining.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience in a healthcare role related to lactation consulting, doula services, or a similar field is preferred.
- Clinical experience in maternal/child care totaling six months (1,040 hours) is advantageous.
- Previous experience as a Lactation Consultant for six months (1,040 hours) is a plus.
- Knowledge of lactation physiology, breastfeeding techniques, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with patients and their families.
- Proficiency in basic word processing and EHR systems.
- Ability to work effectively in a team and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
