At the Water Boards, we have an opening for a dedicated Environmental Scientist to contribute to our water resource policy and management work within the Division of Water Rights. The role demands a blend of scientific expertise, technical proficiency, critical thinking, and effective communication skills to guide state decision makers in water rights choices that benefit California's people and environment.

The vacancy is for an Environmental Scientist in the Drought Planning Unit, situated in the heart of downtown Sacramento at 1001 I Street. This challenging position involves:

  • Analysis of data and interpretation of regulatory requirements to enhance water rights management and planning for future droughts.
  • Utilization of data visualization tools like GIS, PowerBI, and others to represent and interpret water rights data effectively.
  • Ocasional participation in public meetings, engaging with the community on water rights regulations.
  • Conducting water right hearings and adjudicatory procedures before the State Water Resources Control Board, if required.
  • Engagement in various special projects to support key programs and initiatives within the Division of Water Rights.
