At Bay Photo, our reputation for quality and efficiency starts with the organization and care of our high volume of production materials, supplies, equipment, and people. We are seeking a Crating Technician to support our Shipping team.

Summary of Position

The Crating Technician is responsible for a variety of duties in support of the crating function in the Shipping department. The Technician may take direction from the Crating Lead on operational functions to produce unique and challenging crate situations.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Operates saws and other supporting equipment to build wooden crates for large product shipments
  • Participates in packaging of orders in extra large boxes
  • Packages orders in crates for standard shipping and freight shipping
  • Operates strapping machines, glue machines and other equipment in the shipping department to facilitate safe and secure crating
  • Conducts regular cleaning of the wood shop and the crate packaging area.
  • Follows all safety procedures including wearing personal protective equipment
  • Ensures all equipment malfunctions or operational concerns are reported to the Lead or Supervisor
  • Escalates any potential or actual safety issues immediately to Supervisor or Manager
  • Stays focused on quality work production and limits interruptions of the workflow
  • Accepts constructive feedback professionally and incorporates into work production
  • Maintains composure under difficult circumstances and addresses concerns privately with Supervisor or Manager
  • Treats others with respect
Other Duties
  • Responds to changes in workflow, work volume, and production as needed, including working in other departments
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area that is ready for the next shift
  • May be required to operate forklift as needed
Requirements

Skills
  • Ability to operate saws, nail guns, staplers and other equipment used to produce crates in the wood shop.
  • Ability to operate strapping machines, glue machines and other equipment needed to properly pack orders into crates.
  • Strong attention to detail to pack items as per procedures.
  • Good judgment to know when to ask for advice from a supervisor.
  • Strong focus, cannot be easily distracted
  • Ability to work at different workstations
  • Good sense of urgency and works well under pressure
  • Experience operating forklift preferred; training/certification provided
  • Training progression through Small & Large Boxing before placement in Crating
Physical Requirements
  • Stand/walk for most of an eight hour shift.
  • Must be able to lift 55 lbs + and / or guide up to 135 lbs; team-lifting or handling orders ranging from lbs
  • Ability to work in an environment with changing temperatures, exposure to outside, dust and noise
  • Perform repetitive motions throughout the day
  • Frequent Twisting, reaching above head, bending, squatting motions
  • Regularly reach stock or orders up to a height of 72"
Availability
  • Must be reliable and punctual
  • Ability to work overtime, including some weekends, depending on production needs of the department when required.
Compensation:
  • $18.00 per Hour
