Duties

Major Duties:
  • Operating a variety of motor vehicles with load capacities up to 2 1/2 tons and a 19-passenger bus.
  • Transport ambulatory and non ambulatory patients, passengers freight, and linen on and off station and other points.
  • Assist Fleet Manager with coordination of a 275 vehicle motor pool for employees off station trips, maintenance, and repairs.
  • Transports employees within the medical center grounds and special events using a 19 passenger bus.
  • Relieves WG-6 Bay Pines/Tampa Shuttle driver when on leave.
  • Operates a variety of vehicles off station for emissions testing, maintenance, and repairs.
  • Takes vehicles to Tampa area dealers for exchange/pick-up.
  • Responsible for patients' comfort and welfare to include assistance in and out of vehicles, wheelchairs, and help up and down steps and in and out of places of residence.
  • Converses with all levels of staff and patients in scheduling daily motor pool assignments; compiles and submits reports on GSA vehicles usage; processes forms for qualifying drivers.
  • Performs filing and other administrative work; uses a computer terminal.
  • Responsible for the safety of equipment and vehicles he/she operates.
  • Makes emergency repairs on the road, such as changing flat tires or minor repairs; responsible for checking all fluid levels, batteries, belts, tires and cleanliness of the vehicles; corrects or informs supervisor of any deficiencies.
  • Ability to safely jump start other motor vehicles.
  • Makes oral and written road trip reports, including mileage and time consumed on trips and routes traveled.
Work Schedule: Monday- Friday 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM with possible weekends and holidays

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Extensive physical effort includes pushing and pulling wheelchair and stretcher for patients while loading and unloading. May be required to lift patients from wheelchair and into vehicles; with assistance carry wheelchair up and down stairs, steady patients when walking and lift litters in and out of ambulances. Other physical effort is required in maneuvering vehicles, reaching and bending to mount and dismount, as well as cleaning and maintenance. Required to work outside, you will be exposed to summer heat, winter cold, congested traffic conditions, unsafe roads due to torrential rains fumes and dust. You must also wear any required safety deices that may include eye, hand foot or respiratory protection.

If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you MUST provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.
  • Award 50's do not provide sufficient information and will not be accepted for the purpose of verifying time-in-grade.
