The MPSCS Network Communication Center(NCC) monitors systems operations 24 hours a day to ensure the system is ready to assist Michigan's first responders.

The function of any public safety communications system is to assure the rapid response and cooperation of emergency personnel. The MPSCS achieves this through reliable, easy-to-use statewide coverage and advanced technology.

The ability to share information on demand and in real time, whether it is voice or data, is critical to public safety in Michigan.


JOB DESCRIPTION
:


This position functions as the administrative manager for the Radio Programming, Template Design and Console Programming Units within the Michigan's Public Safety Communications System (MPSCS).


The position will be responsible for providing direction and control of functions and activities in the work area including establishing priorities, allocating staff, assigning work orders and ensure handling of administrative, supervisory, and planning functions.


The work area manages the Radio Communications Technicians (RCT's), Departmental Analysts (DA) and a Departmental Specialist in the RPU/TDU covering the programming, templates, and console design for the MPSCS.


This includes programming and template design for over 140,000 radios, 12,000 fire pagers and the console design and programming for nearly 500 dispatch consoles.

They will be expected to collaborate with all areas of MPSCS to ensure the proper support is given to their members.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:


Thorough knowledge of the principles of radio communication or electronics, electronics testing equipment design, two-way radio equipment, federal and state radio regulations, hazard and safety practices, operation of radio transmitting and receiving equipment, labor relations, employee policies and procedures, and training and supervisory techniques.

Ability to instruct, direct and evaluate employees, apply basic electronic concepts and the properties and usage of electronic components.

Ability to maintain records, prepare reports and correspondence related to the work.

Ability to communicate with others and maintain favorable public relations.


Extensive knowledge of personal computers and software, of file maintenance and report generation methods and of programming software as it applies to MPSCS.

Ability to manage multiple assignments and multiple projects.

Education
Possession of a bachelor's degree in any major.
Experience

Four years of professional experience, including two years equivalent to the experienced (P11) level or one year equivalent to the advanced (12) level.
