Situated within Augusta's downtown medical community, the Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home offers continuous nursing care to Georgia's veterans from war times. Operated through an agreement with Augusta University, the home is a pioneer in geriatric education and training for the university.

Job Summary

As the HIMS Record Analyst, you will be responsible for providing technical support to the Health Information Management and Admissions Department. Your role will involve demonstrating expertise in medical record practices, including familiarity with diagnostic coding systems, medical terminology, and disease processes, while offering guidance on nursing home eligibility and admissions.

Responsibilities

  • HEALTH INFORMATION MANAGEMENT RECORD ANALYSIS: Assisting in data retrieval for special reports and studies, reviewing and auditing medical records, and processing resident records within the nursing home.
  • ADMISSION REPRESENTATIVE: Serving as the admission representative, handling resident admissions, inquiries, and admission document management.
  • RESIDENT TRANSPORTATION BACKUP: Providing backup support for resident transportation to appointments and various deliveries.
  • CORRESPONDENCE: Handling transcription of correspondence and mailings for the department.
  • CENSUS REPORTS: Preparing and maintaining census reports as required.
  • MAINTAIN EFFICIENT OFFICE PROCEDURE: Ensuring streamlined office operations through various administrative duties.
  • DEATH CERTIFICATES: Preparation of death certificates and reporting of expired residents.
  • OTHER DUTIES: Performing additional assigned tasks as necessary.

Required Qualifications

High School Diploma/GED with customer service skills and training in health information technology, medical coding, and related fields.

OR

Associate's degree in relevant study area.


Other Required Qualification: Possession of a valid state driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

Professional certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) is preferred. Candidates with technical courses in medical science, terminology, and coding may also be considered.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • KNOWLEDGE: Understanding of medical practice standards, medical terminology, and disease processes.
  • SKILLS: Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication abilities.
  • ABILITIES: Proficiency in using current coding systems such as ICD-10-CM.
