Job Description

A well-established independent oilfield services company is looking for a highly skilled CNC Machinist to perform the setup and operation of CNC machinery (lathe and/or mill). The ideal candidate is knowledgeable in operating lathes & milling machines and understands geometric tolerances and dimensions. Following safety regulations, the new hire will meet/exceed production goals through efficient & effective execution of work instructions while maintaining quality & safety standards.

Location: Houston, TX 77092
Shift: 6am - 2:30pm
Type of Position: Temp-to-Hire

Responsibilities:
  • Set up and operate CNC machinery in all phases of operation, to run first article parts and/or to proof new programs ensuring quality product throughout the production run.
  • Work on new product programs, including ensuring production readiness for new launches.
  • Review blueprints, drawings, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of part/product, sequence of operations and/or set up requirements.
  • Identify, produce, and gauge a variety of straight and taper threads, including Acme and buttress (does not apply to mill positions).
  • Measure, mark, and otherwise indicate the dimensions and reference points on the part or material to be used as guides for subsequent machining.
  • Select, align, and secure the holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines to include mills, lathes, and grinders.
  • Calculate and set controls to regulate various machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut.
  • Start and observe machine operation to detect any malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjust the machine controls or control media as necessary.
  • Verify conformance of finished part to ensure that it meets specifications.
  • Confer with production personnel, engineers, or others to resolve machining or assembly issues.
  • Perform daily maintenance duties and/or notify supervisor of any equipment-related issues that may require attention.
  • Maintain clean and orderly work area.
Requirements:
  • 1 year certificate from college or technical school or minimum of five years related experience and/or training
  • Ability to work under a minimum of supervision
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings as they pertain to machining of inflatable packers or related downhole tools
  • Must have own tools adequate to perform job
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write and/or complete routine reports
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
