JOB SUMMARY:


The Animal Care Technician will assist in implementing animal husbandry techniques and procedures e.g., cage washing facility maintenance and euthanasia.

The candidate ensures standard operating procedures and protocols for animal welfare are maintained and adhered to per GLP following local, state, and federal guidelines.

The candidate maintains quality checks on cleanliness of laboratories and animal rooms. The incumbent must have the ability to work independently or with minimal supervision.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs the daily care of research animals for experimental purposes.
  • Responsible for animal husbandry maintenance and thorough cleanliness of the facility.
  • Cleans animal cages and racks on a regular basis.
  • May assist in some surgery and post-operative care as directed. May assist in euthanasia of animals.
  • Executes activities consistent with protocols, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and GLP guidelines.
  • Maintains current Animal Care Technician SOP Data Matrix as requested by BioCryst Quality Assurance Department.
  • Secures animal intake and disposal.
  • Maintains inventory of laboratory supplies.
  • Coordinates with vendors and supervisors on operational, administrative, and technical responsibilities.
  • All other duties as assigned

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of two years' experience working in animal care.
  • Certification as Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) and one year of experience working in animal care.
  • The ability to lift up to fifty pounds.
  • Ability to adapt to changing research efforts and projects.
