Job Summary

The Day Camp Director furthers the mission of Girl Scouts of Texas Oklahoma Plains (GSTOP) through Camp Kiwanis Day Camp program. The Day Camp Director will direct the camp in daily duties to include supervising staff and providing support to the business functions of day camp by performing camp activities, business and administrative tasks as outlined below.?

Requirements

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Supervise administration and direction of summer day camp program.
  • Communicate with assigned Council staff weekly with camp updates.
  • Complete Camp Director leadership training and facilitate Day Camp staff training.
  • Complete evaluations mid-summer and end of summer for all staff.
  • Oversee the financial management of camp expenses, keep receipts, manage camp credit card, all purchases for camp, keeping all purchases in alignment with approved budget.
  • Upon check-in and check-out, welcome families, trouble shoot. Make sure all staff accounted for and units are prepared accordingly.
  • Ensure staff clock-in and clock-out accurately throughout the summer every week before staff leave for the week.
  • Assist in the planning of and assist in conducting staff orientation and training. Attend all training courses and meetings.
  • Stay vigilant with all American Camper Association (ACA) guidelines and assist in any inspections by ACA or the State of Texas.
  • Make sure all staff follow through with their job descriptions. Assist with assigning staff activities and other responsibilities.
  • Manage the monitoring of safety and all procedures as they pertain to the complete supervision of all staff and campers.
  • Help provide an atmosphere for developing good morale and wellbeing among staff and promote team collaboration. Discourage gossip and encourage comradery.
  • Must be able to drive camp vehicle and be physically able to respond to emergency situations.
  • Maintain effective and positive public relations with parents, vendors, and members of the community.
  • Be aware of camper and staff behavior always, assess the appropriateness, enforce the safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior management techniques. Take charge and in a calm and collected manner.
  • Evaluate the current season and make suggestions for the following season.
  • Supervise the opening and closing of camp, return supplies and vehicles to corporate office.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum 25 years of age.
  • Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certification required (provided if needed).
  • Commitment to the mission and purpose of Girl Scouting.
  • Membership in Girl Scout organization.

  • Experience and/or education in general Outdoor Education or Girl Scouts.
  • Ability to coordinate on-site business activities.

  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license in the state were employee works/resides, with an acceptable driving record, acceptable insurance, and reliable transportation.
