SUMMARY:
Sets up computerized numerically controlled machine tools and related equipment for machining operations. Participates in problem-solving activities and contributes to quality improvements. Operates machines when required. Trains other department employees and provides performance assessment feedback to supervisor. Takes initiative to stimulate team-based quality and productivity improvement activities, supporting the basis for continuous improvement. Actively promotes teamwork atmosphere and supports team development.

DESCRIPTION:


Leads shift team members, explaining the status of jobs running in CNCAssign jobs to machines using the master scheduleEnsure team members are clocking in with Ax and approve hoursCoach and assist all team membersConduct hourly shop inspections, randomly inspecting parts being producedEnsure all team members are conducting preventative maintenanceRoutinely evaluate team members on skill progressionEnsure that 5S is being utilized in the toolbox areaReports status of facility to incoming team leader or supervisorWorks from drawings, blueprints, job layouts, or other written specifications, determine feeds, speeds, tooling, and operational sequencesSet up and inspect the first article part on any proven program and turn it in for Quality Assurance verification at an 80% approval rateChange cutting tools and location of workpieces during the machining processInstalls cutting tools and various work-holding devices to handle the size of stock to be machinedOperates and adjusts machines until parts produced conform with specifications and time standardsMakes necessary adjustments to set-ups during operations to maintain accurate productionResponsible for completeness of secondary setup.

Detects and reports improper operation, faulty equipment, and unusual conditionsDetects and reports significant variances in job standardsUpon completion of the First Article of Verification trains and monitors the work of the operator assigned to that machinePerforms secondary operations as defined by the traveler, using various machines/tools such as files, drill presses, and sandersAssists operators on which dimensions to inspect, (proper tools and gauges)Ensures quality of parts before forwarding them to the next operation/processResponsible for cleanliness of his/her work area and the general housekeeping of the CompanyReports any unsafe conditions to the Supervisor/Management/MaintenanceOther duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum 5 years of CNC setup experience.
Minimum 3 years experience in a manufacturing environment.
Prototyping and first-piece development with program experience are a plus.
Capable of running and setting up most CNC machines in the department.
Understands and can modify basic CNC programs.
Ability to make basic fixtures and jigs.
Ability to use micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and dial indicators.
The ability to read and interpret blueprints is a must.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Continuous mental and visual attention is required. Requires constant alertness or activity.

Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms.

The employee is frequently required to stand and occasionally required to walk, sit, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:


While performing the essential functions of this position, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is exposed to airborne particles and chemicals.
