Position at The Oncology Service-Leesburg

The Oncology Service, located in Leesburg, VA, is seeking a full-time, experienced Veterinary Assistant for its growing practice. The position is 38-40 hours per week with full-time benefits. No nights, weekends, or on-call

The ideal candidate should be direct, friendly, organized, resilient and flexible, and enjoy working with cats and dogs. Customer service, computer and multi-tasking skills are essential. Please be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and with taking direction from both doctors and technicians. You must be safety conscious and comfortable working around chemotherapeutics. We are very detail and safety-oriented, you should be as well. Our employees show immense support, gratitude and respect for their peers, and a good-personality fit is a must.

Duties include but are not limited to:

Greeting clients Taking pet histories since last visit TPR on both dogs and cats Blood draws (we pull from the jugular, so please be comfortable with this, or willing to learn) Holding for the doctors and technicians (for bloodwork, exams and chemotherapy treatments) Performing radiographs Dispensing medications, explaining medications and discharge instructions, entering charges, answering calls, and patient follow up. Anesthesia recovery Assist with phone calls and checking clients in/out

Skills and Abilities:

2 years of veterinary assistant experience, specialty experience preferred Ability to multi-task and prioritize work Fundamental knowledge of windows-based computer programs. Ability to recognize and seek guidance in all client-related cases where protocol does not apply Need to have the ability to remain professional and inviting even under stressful and emotional situations.
