The Ohio Department of Higher Education is a key agency for the Governor in overseeing higher education for the state. They focus on authorizing new degree programs, managing financial aid, and developing policies to benefit the state and its people.

Responsibilities:

  • Budget Development and Oversight:
    • Plan, implement, and supervise the agency budget ensuring financial stability.
    • Collaborate with OBM on budget plans and expenditure estimates.
    • Analyze fiscal reports and suggest cost-effective measures.
    • Monitor spending and recommend adjustments as needed.
    • Handle payroll projections and assist in compensation management.
    • Manage the agency budget in the accounting system.
  • Fiscal Management:
    • Approve contracts, MOUs, and purchase requests.
    • Supervise fiscal operations and approvals.
    • Direct financial staff and ensure compliance with budgetary guidelines.
  • Capital Planning and Oversight:
    • Coordinate capital budget recommendations.
    • Supervise capital efforts and requests.
    • Review and submit capital requests for approval.
  • Other Duties:
    • Act on behalf of superiors when required.
    • Represent the agency externally.
    • Conduct evaluations and handle HR matters.
    • Additional assignments as needed.
