Senior Mechanical Engineer, Plumbing and Fire Protection

The MIT Department of Facilities Facilities Engineering group seeks a senior mechanical engineer to provide plumbing and fire protection engineering and direction for project managers, operations staff, and outside consultants for MITs 160+ buildings on campus.

Will provide plumbing and fire protection engineering coordination and technical guidance with the Utilities Division, including campus water meters technical oversight and operations; interact with MITs Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) group for technical collaboration and building system guidance and oversight of chemical waste and wastewater systems; provide technical assistance and collaboration to other engineers with primary responsibility for electrical systems, fire alarm, HVAC, and mechanical systems and develop working knowledge of those systems; and provide expertise to and be involved in MIT water sustainability initiatives with the MIT Office of Sustainability. Will work under the direction of the director, facilities engineering.

Required Qualifications:

B.S. in mechanical engineering

Ten years of experience and evidence of a path to P.E.

Experience with plumbing and fire protection systems design, construction, and maintenance

Experience with waste/chemical wastewater systems

Collaborative approach to work

Ability to influence and serve and function in a team-based environment

Communication and interpersonal skills for effectively dealing with a range of customers, e.g., students, administrators, professors, tradespeople, senior management, etc.

Preferred Qualifications:

Masters in fire protection engineering

PE license

Experience with water conservation and technologies with sustainable goals

Project management experience on plumbing and fire protection projects
