Role Overview:
The Chief Development Officer (CDO) plays a key role in driving philanthropic growth and shaping our ability to make a positive impact on the communities we serve.

Responsibilities include devising and implementing a comprehensive philanthropy strategy, providing strategic leadership, and nurturing a culture of philanthropy across Sinai Chicago, our board, and key stakeholders.

Collaborating closely with the Chief Executive Officer, development team, senior leaders, board members, and functional heads, the CDO focuses on leveraging giving opportunities that advance our mission, promote health equity, and enhance the well-being of the communities we operate in.

Additionally, this position is integral to the Executive Team, contributing to system-wide strategy formulation, planning, and decision-making.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Developing and articulating a compelling philanthropy vision that maximizes organizational strengths while ensuring fundraising efforts align with our mission, vision, and values.
  • Creating a philanthropic marketing and stakeholder strategy to enhance relationships that bolster philanthropic backing and amplify our mission across Chicagoland and other relevant markets.
  • Showcasing strong strategic planning and execution capabilities to inspire and lead fundraising initiatives from inception to goal attainment.
  • Pioneering fresh approaches to engage and secure contributions from a diverse donor base.
  • Acting as a system representative to establish and manage philanthropic partnerships, aligning system priorities with donor interests.
  • Fostering collaboration with the board development committee, auxiliaries, and support teams to drive innovation and embrace shared opportunities while acknowledging the distinct fundraising drivers of each entity.
  • Cultivating a dynamic culture of philanthropy internally and within the Sinai Chicago service area through impactful stories and messages.
  • Identifying and implementing best practices, aligning the development team for optimal outcomes and ROI.
  • Establishing collaborative relationships with leaders and stakeholders to facilitate vendor and external partner engagement in support of Sinai Chicago's mission.
  • Monitoring fundraising progress, regularly updating results for the board, executive leadership, and management teams.
  • Performing assigned duties efficiently and effectively.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in communication, public relations, philanthropic management, non-profit administration, business administration, finance, health care management, or related field.
  • Over 10 years of progressively responsible experience, including a minimum of five years in philanthropic leadership or a nonprofit executive role.
  • Demonstrated success as an influential leader within a healthcare organization.

  • Strong critical thinking and strategic planning skills.
  • Initiative-driven to cultivate and nurture long-term relationships.
