Position Purpose:
The Commons Associate
  • Sanitation role involves providing dishroom and janitorial support for the Bates dining program serving approximately 5,000 meals daily to students, faculty, staff, and guests.
This role requires following food safety and sanitation procedures while fostering positive relationships with diverse individuals and groups.

Working collaboratively in a communicative and inclusive team is crucial for success.

Exceptional organizational and time management skills, outstanding customer service, and attention to detail are essential.

This position may be designated as "Essential Personnel" in situations such as:
An emergency on the Bates campus or nearby impacting operationsCampus closure due to inclement weatherOr other appropriate emergency events

Job Duties:

Conduct various tasks:Dishwashing tasks includingLoadingUnloadingRunning the linePolishing silverwarePutting away dishesWindow cleaningPerform janitorial tasks including:Cleaning restroomsSweeping and mopping floorsWashing the dish machineDustingCleaning windowsMaintaining general cleanlinessRecycling and trash managementMat cleaningAssisting in other areas as required.

Ensure compliance with sanitation and safety standards.
Perform assigned duties.
Demonstrate high levels of customer service.
Promote environmental best practices such as composting, recycling, and waste reduction.
Encourage diversity and facilitate open communication.
Participate in regular meetings.
Support operations in various areas as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:
EducationHigh school diploma or equivalent preferred.
