We are seeking CATV Field Sweep Technicians to provide troubleshooting, preventative maintenance recommendations, coax splicing, installation, activation, and repair of HFC distribution systems. Responsibilities will include maintenance, forward and return balancing the system using test equipment, setting up a system sweep generator, as well as performing other related duties.

Responsibilities

Assess OSP hardware and infrastructure including but not limited to plant documentation, Hybrid Fiber Coax (HFC) active and passives, reading and understanding OSP diagrams/drawings, taking and maintaining accurate field notes, operation of a bucket truck, accessing network enclosures and nodes and operation of testing gear. The workload is evenly split between hardline coax splicing, sweep and activation tasks, each comprising of 50% of the job. Correct customer network failures and improve overall network performance using sweep gear and CATV test equipment. Work with customers, subcontractors, and other team members in the field to define, collect, and determine information from customers and customer facilities for project requirements. Conduct targeted system sweeps, document findings, and deliver system information to create system reports. Perform head end and meter set up. Diagnose and repair plant related issues to reduce upstream noise and forward path impairments within the cable system with the use of standard OSP tools to include OTDR's, TDR's, light meters, and signal strength meters. Perform DOCSIS 3.1 Testing and assessments. Calculate system signal losses and make necessary adjustments to resolve issues. Understanding the project SOW and escalation process for deviations. Report accurate daily project updates for productivity tracking and project billing. Define, develop, and share technical knowledge and stay current on technical advancements. Install fiber optic enclosures, nodes, and related equipment as necessary. Install in-line devices on system backbone (node, amplifiers, line extenders, taps, splitters, and power supplies) as necessary for sweep and system upgrade projects. Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by management.

Qualifications

1-3 years' experience splicing hardline distribution coax is required. 1-3 years' experience in a HFC Sweep/Technician role within the Service Provider space, or similar, is required. Must have experience with production upgrades within a CATV OSP (Outside Plant) environment and be proficient in troubleshooting. Must have experience splicing optical nodes, amplifiers, line extenders, taps, splitters, power supplies in aerial and underground locations. Experience setting up and optimizing new optical node equipment is preferred. Experience TDR test equipment, locator, signal level meter, and hand tools. Test equipment will include but not limited to the following: VIAVI SCU 1800 Sweep Generator, VIAVI OneExpert ONX-630, VIAVI DSP TDR, OTDR, VOM, and Light Meter. Full understanding and previous hands-on experience with Viavi/JDSU gear regarding sweep and DOCSIS testing. General understanding of an HFC headend combining, optics (forward and return), and basic understanding of CMTS, FTTX, and ISP. Consulting background and experience working with multiple customers is preferred. Bucket truck and safety certifications preferred. Ability to maintain accurate record keeping, reporting, and great attention to detail. Ability to read and understand plant maps for CATV system designs. Ability to work independently on projects and take direction from teammates and develop skills to advance professionally. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Capable of following directions and adhering to strict deadlines. The ability to embrace corporate values, understand the company vision, and exemplify CCI leadership behaviors.

Shift is Monday-Friday between the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and/or 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. CST but must be able to work outside normal business hours when required for system maintenance and subscriber outages.

Additional information

Approximately 75% travel is required, typically 14 days on-site, travel days, and 5 days off at home. Long-term project in state of Virginia so travel schedule may differ. Must have a valid driver's license and a good driving record. Must be able to pass a DOT Medical Examination to obtain and maintain a DOT Commercial Motor Vehicle Certification. This is a remote position when not traveling.
