Provides direct pharmaceutical services by selecting, procuring, preparing and dispensing medications.

Assures that staff is in compliance with all JCAHO standard and guidelines as well as the provision of IHS manual, standards of conduct and Privacy Act, and quality assurance in the pharmacy services.

Measles and Rubella immunization required for selectees born after 1957 and seasonal influenza immunization is required for all staff working in Indian Health Service health care facilities.

Licensure:
Applicants must be licensed to practice pharmacy in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States

Medical Requirements:

Pharmacy work requires knowledge of the use, clinical effects, and composition of medications, including their chemical, biological, and physical properties.

Qualifying professional pharmacy experience may involve, but is not limited to:

Performing administrative, consultative, or staff advisory work for a medical facility's pharmacy program;
Planning, monitoring and evaluating medication programs or regimens;
Researching medical literature and/or clinical medication information to provide accurate responses to inquiries; In addition to the Basic Requirements (licensure, medical and education described above), you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Specialized Experience for the GS-13: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Provides inpatient and outpatient pharmacy services and carries out the pharmacy functions of drug selection, compounding and dispensing as prescribed, including IV and chemotherapy drugs; ensure correct labeling, handling and storage of pharmaceutical products; creates schedules and assigns work for subordinates, evaluates work performance, ensures staff maintains and is current with all JCAHO standards and credentialing; teach pharmacy techniques/ procedures to other pharmacists

Supervisory Abilities:

This is a supervisory position and candidates, in addition to the professional qualifications listed, must have demonstrated in their work experience or training, that they possess, or have potential to develop, the qualities of successful supervision, as required for this position.
