WSP's is hiring for a Construction Materials Technician in Knoxville, TN to perform construction materials and testing work. WSP provides construction materials testing and quality control services to a variety of clients from civil contractors to state and federal agencies.

This position is fulltime, permanent and offers exciting and valuable opportunities for the motivated candidate to become trained in key aspects of our other related lines of business including environmental sciences, site assessment, remediation, earth sciences and geotechnical engineering.

Responsibilities

-Perform field and laboratory testing and inspections for concrete, soils, aggregates, and asphalt in accordance with relevant standards.

-Sampling/testing of concrete, collection of field samples and conduction of soil and asphalt compaction testing.

-Preparation of daily field reports, field compaction reports, laboratory testing reports, and other office assignments.

-Maintain, adjust and calibrate testing equipment, test fixtures, and other laboratory tools. Facilitate repairs or replacements as needed.

-Cooperate with other team members on the development and implementation of standardized and/or one-off test procedures for additive manufacturing with concrete-based materials.

-Monitor work procedures for compliance with project specifications.

-Interact with client representative (supervisors, foremen, project managers, engineers, etc.) at project sites.

-Participate in the internal QA program, including but not limited to fabrication of test specimens on job sites, transportation of specimens to the laboratory, testing and/or testing management, and reporting.

-Maintain equipment, inventory and records required for an AASHTO certified laboratory.

-Actively participate in internal safety programs to ensure that all work in the laboratory and the field is performed in accordance with all applicable safety rules and regulations.

-Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

-Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Required Qualifications:

-High School Diploma or equivalent

-Minimum 3 years related experience in construction testing/inspections of soil, concrete, masonry, and/or asphalt materials.

-Requires travel to work sites and willingness to work outdoors

-Requires ability to lift 50 lbs. routinely

-Ability to apply analytical or scientific thinking to define and solve problems and be able to execute field and office tasks

-Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

-Ability to work effectively with team members as well as independently

-Strong mathematical skills

-Very strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills

-Understanding of basic engineering principles

-Basic ability to use Microsoft Office applications, (Outlook, One Drive, Teams, Word, Excel)

-Demonstrated problem-solving ability

-Flexibility to work outside normal business hours as business needs require

-Must pass a fit for duty physical, background check,

-Valid driver's license and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy

-The following ACI Certifications (or equivalent):

-Concrete Strength Testing Technician

-Aggregate Testing Technician - Level I

-Concrete Field Testing Technician - Grade I

  • If certifications have been previously obtained but have expired, the candidate must be able to get re-certified within 6 months of employment.
