Summary

**This role will focus on 3PL and Supply Chain Operations, not Trucking**

The Sr. Transportation Manager contributes to meeting Langham Logistics goals of quality, profitability, and customer service and satisfaction by overseeing and managing the daily process and personnel of the Transportation Operations functions of the organization. The Sr. Transportation Manager executes the department initiatives of the organization's strategic plan, including formulating methods for achieving stated growth initiatives.

The Sr. Transportation Manager works closely with the Director of Transportation to establish annual benchmark goals for the departments, including budgeting. The Sr. Transportation Manager is instrumental in establishing, implementing, and monitoring all policies regarding the activities and outcomes of all departments under his/her purview.

The Sr. Transportation Manager is responsible for the effective development of employees in Transportation Operations and contributing to company goals of professional development.

  • Driving existing and new carrier and partner relationships; Delivering efficient and effective solutions that meet the constraints of time, cost and scope.
  • Measuring the effect of process changes and accurately quantifying the impact.
  • Collaborating cross-functionally to onboard new clients and track/analyze performance.
  • Determines the most efficient sequence of Transportation Operations and workflow and recommends methods for maximum asset/people utilization.
  • Recommending methods for improving associate efficiency and reducing waste of time and effort (e.g., restructuring job duties, reorganizing workflow, job setup and related)
  • Participating in training and testing for new systems and processes as part of implementation plan.
  • Leading/executing best practices to promote associate engagement and enablement.
  • Identifying ways to build/implement talent capabilities at all levels while identifying opportunities for training and development.
  • Support the sales team with responding to requests for proposals, and the on-boarding process for new customers.
  • Assist the sales team with a greater understanding of the processes and capabilities of the Transportation Operations Department.
  • Provide leadership to the departments in all areas, including industry knowledge, trends and techniques in customer service, and professionalism.
  • Manage and enhance carrier relations opportunities to support growth.
  • Build bench strength by participating in the recruiting and interviewing process to identify individuals who will make a positive impact on the organization in positions within the various operational departments. Be attuned to Langham employees who demonstrate the potential to take on additional responsibilities and/or move into other positions.

Skills, Knowledge and Behaviors

  • Demonstrates understanding of the logistics and transportation industry, including regulatory requirements.
  • Experience with LTL carrier/client negotiating and optimization.
  • Experience with commercial air multi-leg coordination and development.
  • A full understanding of International Air/Ocean Import and Exports.
  • Effective analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills (can gather and analyze data and information and draw conclusions). Able to think logically and analytically.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret financial statements. Ability to analyze financial information, recognize trends, and make decisions. Can operate within a budget.
  • Able to manage an overall process of a department or division, including setting and meeting schedules, prioritizing, and following up on tasks, performing responsibilities efficiently and timely (time management) and delivering agreed upon outcomes.
  • Effective supervisory skills, including recruiting, teaching, coaching, mentoring, and terminating. Able to guide others towards professional development in the industry. Can hold others accountable for performance.
  • Proactive in anticipating and alerting others to problems with projects or processes. Able to negotiate with and influence others. Able to resolve conflicts.
  • Strong experience with ground expedite.
  • Prefer prior knowledge with Mercury Gate and/or CargoWise (TMS) Systems.
  • Responding and pricing RFP's (Request for Pricing)
  • Prior knowledge and understanding of Life Science and Temperature controlled transportation

Education and Experience

  • B. S. in a business-related discipline, prefer logistics.
  • 5 - 10 years' experience in the 3PL/Supply Chain industry
  • 5 years' management experience in a comparable
  • 5 - 8 years LTL, Truckload, Air, and international (Ocean) negotiations experience
  • 5 - 8 years Domestic/International airfreight experience
