Join Our Team as a Public Health and Prevention Specialist III

We are currently looking for a highly motivated individual to join our team as a Publ Hlth and Prevent Spcl III. In this role, you will work under the supervision of the HIV Cactus Surveillance Group Manager, where you will be responsible for data collection, surveillance follow-up, and data entry into the TB/HIV/STD Integrated System (THISIS) specifically focusing on rural areas of Texas.

As a Publ Hlth and Prevent Spcl III, your main tasks will include collecting reports of HIV/AIDS cases and perinatally exposed infants born to mothers living with HIV. You will also be involved in medical record abstractions and collaborating with local Public Health Follow Up to manage workflows in THISIS. Additionally, you will collaborate with the HIV Surveillance Site Review Coordinator and team lead to ensure timely and complete surveillance follow-up based on Texas DSHS and CDC performance standards.

Essential Job Functions:
  • (30%) Collect reports of HIV and AIDS cases diagnosed and/or treated, ensuring accuracy and timely entry into the Texas HIV Surveillance Procedure Manual.
  • (20%) Gather all necessary data elements for HIV surveillance follow-up activities and conduct continuous epidemiologic follow-up on cases missing critical information.
  • (10%) Collect reports of pediatric HIV and AIDS cases, infants born exposed to HIV, and pregnant women living with HIV within the designated Service Area.
  • (10%) Perform various HIV Surveillance tasks as specified.
  • (10%) Manage workflows in THISIS for the assigned Service Area.
  • (10%) Conduct Out of State Record searches and Routine Interstate Deduplication activities as outlined in the Texas HIV Surveillance Procedure Manual.
  • (5%) Perform person and disease case deduplication.
  • (5%) Participate in disaster response and/or recovery efforts as needed.
Knowledge Skills Abilities:
  • Skill in collecting, organizing, and interpreting data.
  • Ability to prepare reports and deliver public health information effectively.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Capability to collaborate with others to solve complex issues.
  • Expertise in training others on quality data collection and entry.

  • Knowledge of infectious disease control and surveillance.
  • Understanding of HIV control and reporting.
