The Capital Enterprise Management Organization (CEMO) within Treasury at American Express (AXP) is responsible for overseeing the Company's participation in the Federal Reserve's Comprehensive Capital Analysis and Review (CCAR). The team leads the creation and submission of the Company's annual Capital Plan and ensures the stress testing program remains well-designed, well-controlled, insightful, and thoughtfully tailored to regulatory expectations. The Program Management Office (PMO) within CEMO is the central hub that orchestrates the Capital Stress Testing processes. The PMO team leads the macroeconomic and event-driven capital stress testing processes that are performed to ensure that the Company maintains adequate levels of capital to support business activities under both normal and hypothetical stressed conditions. In order to do this, they work closely with global stakeholders including Treasury, Corporate Planning, Finance, and Risk. The team coordinates with the Company's primary regulator, the Federal Reserve, on all capital stress-testing requirements. Additionally, the CEMO team plays an integral role in AXP's bank subsidiary (American Express National Bank - AENB) Macroeconomic Stress Testing processes.

As a member of the Capital Enterprise Management Organization, the Manager will have a unique and exciting opportunity to gain a firm-wide view of Capital and Macroeconomic Stress Testing. The candidate will coordinate and execute these programs for both AXP and AENB. The Manager will focus on regulatory capital stress testing initiatives, integrating evolving business and regulatory needs, and other high profile strategic projects as the company prepares for heightened capital requirements. The candidate will directly contribute to the success of AXP's regulatory capital exercises by coordinating the stress testing processes and supporting key initiatives in CEMO. This individual will work closely with stakeholders across functional areas with a focus on effectively managing the overall process execution to drive quality, consistency, and sustainability. In addition, this individual will play a key role in developing recommendations and action plans for process improvement and issue resolution. This role requires strong program management experience and communication skills as well as the ability to distill complex concepts into presentations for senior management, Committees, and the Board.

How will you make an impact in this role?
  • Support the day-to-day management of CCAR and Macroeconomic Stress Testing processes, including the review and challenge process between senior management and all capital stress testing Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) as well as internal oversight and regulatory reviews of these processes.
  • Enhance, align, and create standards across all capital stress testing areas, including further integrating AENB requirements and considerations into stress testing processes.
  • Support the preparation of executive level capital planning presentations that clearly link AXP and AENB's strategies and processes to regulatory expectations.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across multiple disciplines (Treasury, Corporate Planning, Risk, etc.) to define and develop scenarios to be modeled for stress test programs.
  • Support ad hoc projects as part of AXP and its banking subsidiary capital management frameworks.
  • Analyzing existing capital processes such as CCAR, Macroeconomic Stress Testing, and Scenario Design to identify opportunities for streamlining and automation.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Strong program management, collaboration, influencing and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to partner and drive results with teams outside of your direct reporting line.
  • Proactive and highly organized with an ability to manage multiple demands while retaining strong attention to detail and driving results within critical deadlines.
  • Must be comfortable operating with some degree of ambiguity and defining approaches to handle "white space" inherent in an evolving regulatory environment.
  • Financial scenario planning and forecasting as well as analytics experience.
  • Must be highly proficient in PowerPoint and Excel; TM1, Power BI and/or Workiva a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Prior regulatory, compliance, and/or capital experience.
