Full Time Adult Education Instructor - Corrections

Position Summary:

This role involves providing educational instruction to adult learners in a corrections environment, ensuring adherence to program guidelines and fostering a positive learning environment.

The Instructor utilizes various teaching strategies to engage participants within the correctional setting.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implement the academic and workplace readiness curriculum following program design
  • Create a classroom atmosphere based on respect and rapport to encourage a culture of learning in the corrections facility
  • Accommodate new students on an ongoing open enrollment basis
  • Create individualized educational plans for each participant
  • Conduct orientation, evaluation, and placement of new participants
  • Adjust teaching methods based on each participant's academic and social level
  • Manage student behavior and classroom procedures in line with Jail policies
  • Administer monthly progress assessments and pre/post education evaluations
  • Address sensitive issues and refer students to the Program Coordinator when necessary
  • Maintain accurate student records and submit them as scheduled
  • Utilize electronic data for precise reporting
  • Complete non-instructional tasks as directed
  • Follow policies and procedures mandated by the Jail
Qualifications

1. Bachelor's Degree with at least 1 year of adult teaching experience, preferably in corrections education

  • Experience with Adult Basic Education, GED instruction, developmental classes, or Special Education is highly desirable
  • PA Teacher Certification and Education classroom experience is highly preferred
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational and electronic recordkeeping abilities
  • Capability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Demonstrated proficiency in instructional technology
  • Ability to integrate workforce development into the curriculum
  • Interest in implementing non-traditional best practices in curriculum development
  • Customize instruction for multi-level classes
  • Adherence to AIU conduct policy

Additional Requirements:

  • Mandatory current clearances prior to hiring
  • Completion of School Personnel Health Record

This position may involve sitting for extended periods, lifting/carrying heavy objects, kneeling, bending to handle teaching materials, clear communication, good hearing, and adequate vision.
