You will manage the logistics and transportation department internal and external resources, communication across all managerial levels and fostering strong carrier partnerships. In addition, you will be responsible for transportation financial budgeting, on-time delivery service across retail, commercial, and residential business lines, domestic and international carrier selection, and transportation network design support. The ideal candidate will be flexible and comfortable working in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment. In this role, you will need to think strategically, drive for results, and have hands-on market analysis. Must have both strong written and verbal communication skills, data analysis skills, operate efficiently within a team atmosphere and be able to present comfortably to all levels of management. What you will be doing:
- Lead Avery Products' Transportation operation, managing domestic and international freight spend across inbound, outbound, and inter-company shipments. This covers all modes of transportation – Full Truckload, Intermodal, Less than Truckload (LTL), Small Package/Parcel, Ocean, and Air Freight.
- Develop, build, and foster strong carrier relationships.
- Perform and review KPIs related to cost, service, and market conditions.
- Prepare annual freight budget for different reportable business segments.
- Assist acquired businesses to improve cost and service goals for their businesses.
- Work closely with the Avery distribution centers to understand local and regional transportation requirements.
- Execute carrier RFPs to improve cost efficiencies vs. the market and improve network capabilities.
- Manage the Transportation Management System (TMS) and collaborate with the provider team for analytics and process advancements.
- Conduct monthly analysis of Avery's freight spend performance to plan and report out to the Avery leadership team.
- Monitor domestic and global transportation trends to manage and mitigate service and budget risks.
- Work on Continuous Improvement Projects to increase efficiency and eliminate non-value added work.
- Collaborate as a partner for Avery business initiatives (e.g. new product launches, new suppliers, etc.)
What you need to succeed:
- Bachelor's degree in business, industrial engineering, or related field.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in a management position.
- Minimum 20 years of experience in Transportation Activities, Financial Reporting Systems and Budget Development
- Experience and understanding of cross-border shipping between MX-US-CAN and CTPAT Compliance
- Proficient in SQL Server, Visual Studio, Microsoft Excel
- Strong interpersonal and negotiating skills
- Results oriented, self-starter, good problem-solving skills, and ability to handle multiple initiatives
- Ability to build relationships and work effectively with multiple functions, sites, and suppliers
- Excellent oral and written communication skills across all levels of the organization.
