The YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago is now hiring a Food Program Support Specialist - put your passion into practice

Under the direction of the Community Impact Program Manager, the Food Program Support Specialist works to assist with the implementation and coordination of departmental USDA funded programs including the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) and Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) and related training in addition to other departmental programs and projects. The Food Program Support Specialist maintains electronic records in accordance with CACFP and SFSP regulations. The Food Program Support Specialist monitors meal service at in person visits at the participating childcare centers to ensure program compliance and manages relationships with the childcare program staff, program members, other YMCA staff members, and community representatives.

Salary for this role starts at $50,000 per year with full-time benefits and opportunities to grow within the organization

Scope of Responsibilities:
  • Assist Program Manager with determining existing program scope and develop project plan to expand program efforts
  • Performs research necessary to plan and implement an assigned activity
  • Assist Program Manager with annual launch of SFSP and ongoing CACFP
  • Coordinate and conduct all activities related to monitoring functions of the child care programs participating in the CACFP and SFSP programs
  • Knowledgeable of program budget
  • Complete and submit annual CACFP and SFSP re-certification applications
  • Ensure meal counts are accurate and complete, ensure that site monitoring is being completed accurately and consistently
  • Oversee functions related to WINS for CACFP and SFSP including but not limited to: online application and completion of bid packets, filing of meal counts, completed site visits and review, and monthly reimbursement submissions in an accurate, timely, and complete manner
  • Assist with CACFP and SFSP review and audit
  • Coordinate with Program Manager and stakeholders to develop and deliver pre-service and on-going in-service training for high-quality programming
  • Keep current on changes regarding governmental/state regulations, act as compliance subject matter expert relating to CACFP and SFSP and advise Program Manager and stakeholders of these changes. Ensure compliance with state mandated requirements
  • Gather and analyze data related to CACFP, SFSP, and other food security programming
  • Support outreach efforts for program expansion and awareness
Minimum and Preferred Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 1-2+ years of work experience preferably in food security or USDA nutrition programming
  • Detail oriented with strong quantitative analytical skills
  • Computer savvy: skilled and comfortable with query and reporting tools, operational systems, Microsoft Office, video conferencing
  • Strong communication skills
  • Food Service Handler Certificate preferred, not required
  • Certificate of Completion: Planning and Administering CACFP preferred, not required
  • Certificate of Completion: Planning and Administering SFSP preferred, not required
  • Ability to work with diverse groups, maintain confidentiality and think strategically
  • Ability to operate as a team player juggling multiple priorities
  • Strong customer service orientation, creative problem solving, interpersonal and diplomacy skills, collaborative work style
  • Ability to work in remote or hybrid environment
  • Access to transportation to travel within the Chicagoland area
