JOB SUMMARY
- The Child Life Specialist will provide emotional, social, and developmental support to pediatric patients and families, enhancing the quality of care during illness or injury, including end-of-life and bereavement.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
- Offer psychosocial care and advocacy for pediatric patients.
- Provide therapeutic medical play and preparation sessions.
- Deliver emotional support and interventions to promote acceptance and coping with illness.
- Participate in creating safe, supportive environments for patients and families.
- Engage patients in age-appropriate activities to stimulate cognitive and emotional growth.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to enhance the patient experience.
- Communicate observations effectively to the healthcare team.
- Provide education on Child Life concepts to volunteers and students.
- Plan special events for patients when needed.
KEY SUCCESS FACTORS
- Demonstrate expertise in child development, child life theory, trauma, and grief.
- Display exceptional communication, cultural competence, and time management skills.
- Proactively educate medical staff on child life services.
- Advocate for the psychosocial well-being of children.
- Manage emotional stress in challenging situations effectively.
- Ensure accurate and professional documentation.
- Possess or obtain required certifications.

QUALIFICATIONS
- EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree
- EXPERIENCE: Less than 1 year
- CERTIFICATION/LICENSE: Basic Life Support (BLS) and Cert Child Life Specialist (CCLS) required.
