Our Child Life Department is seeking a full-time Child Life Specialist to join the team at the renowned McLane Children's Baylor Scott and White Medical Center in Temple, TX. Currently, opportunities exist in the Emergency Department and the Special Procedures/Radiology Unit. The Emergency Department offers mid-shift positions, while the SPU/Radi position is for day shift.

JOB SUMMARY
  • The Child Life Specialist will provide emotional, social, and developmental support to pediatric patients and families, enhancing the quality of care during illness or injury, including end-of-life and bereavement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
  • Offer psychosocial care and advocacy for pediatric patients.
  • Provide therapeutic medical play and preparation sessions.
  • Deliver emotional support and interventions to promote acceptance and coping with illness.
  • Participate in creating safe, supportive environments for patients and families.
  • Engage patients in age-appropriate activities to stimulate cognitive and emotional growth.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to enhance the patient experience.
  • Communicate observations effectively to the healthcare team.
  • Provide education on Child Life concepts to volunteers and students.
  • Plan special events for patients when needed.

KEY SUCCESS FACTORS
  • Demonstrate expertise in child development, child life theory, trauma, and grief.
  • Display exceptional communication, cultural competence, and time management skills.
  • Proactively educate medical staff on child life services.
  • Advocate for the psychosocial well-being of children.
  • Manage emotional stress in challenging situations effectively.
  • Ensure accurate and professional documentation.
  • Possess or obtain required certifications.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree
