The University of Miami has a great opportunity for an Assistant Director, Academic Advising to work at the Coral Gables Campus.

The Assistant Director of Transitional Advising works with undergraduate students to ensure their transition, persistence, and success at the University of Miami.

This position reports directly to the Director of Student Success and First Year Foundations and works collaboratively with all the departments within the area of Undergraduate Affairs, Division of Enrollment Management, Division of Student Affairs, and other campus partners.

The Assistance Director develops, coordinates, and assists in the planning and execution of strategies and programs aimed to help students navigate the transition to college, especially as it relates to completing onboarding tasks and course registration for their first semester.

The Assistant Director supports the work of the Associate Director for administrative, managerial, and professional nature under general supervision from the director.


Salary Range:
$59,000 to $62,000 depending on experience
Department Specific Functions
Assists in building, launching, and managing the Transitional Advising Program.
Collaborates with Schools/Colleges and Campus Partners to ensure the best support for onboarding new students.
Participate in the planning, implementation, and the evaluation of the transitional advising program's goals and objectives.
Maintain a collaborative, professional environment to foster strong interdepartmental relationships and positively impact university transitional advising and retention efforts. Identify and provide leadership on ongoing and new programs to support student transition and retention.

Responsible for demonstrating comprehensive knowledge of university resources, policies, and procedures and articulating these ideas clearly and concisely to facilitate student success.

Specifically, maintain extensive and current knowledge of campus-wide policies and procedures related to financial aid, billing, and registration and the impact on first-term students.

Responsible for student caseload, which includes monitoring and outreach to ensure students are completing Road to UM tasks, Road to UM modules, and fulltime course registration.

Responsible for providing holistic student support to students including anti-melt efforts, course registration, retention, and persistence initiatives.

Assists Director in managing all summer anti-melt efforts including the summer communication series as well as the content and implementation of the Road to UM for New and Transfer students and their parents.

Maintaining consistency and accuracy with related webpages (including Slate Checklist) both within and outside of EM.
Partners with the Director for all liaison activities between the 'Cane Success Center on ongoing retention-related activities.

Stay abreast of changing institutional information including admissions requirements, new programs, course changes, deadlines, important dates, costs, expanding facilities, updates in college-wide initiatives.

Utilize and reinforce the use advising tools and technology for student success, such as EAB Navigate Assist in managing visits to the Transitional Advising Office, including but not limited to walk-in appointments, phone calls, emails, and EAB Navigate Campaigns.

May have the option to fill the role of First Year Directions Facilitator if qualifications are met.

Represent Transitional Advising at student events, including Admitted Student Events, Spring Involvement Fairs, Orientation, Canes Connect, Onboarding Webinars, and others.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:
Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree in Higher Education preferred.

Experience:
Four years of advising and relevant experience, counseling and/or customer service is preferred. Supervisory experience preferred. Relevant education, certifications and/or work experience may be considered.

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:


Candidate must have passion and dedication for providing students and their families with thorough, compassionate support, and the utmost care.

Familiarity with Navigate, Salesforce, PeopleSoft, Slate, and Blackboard preferred.
