Menaul School is looking for an engaging, energetic, creative, and technologically savvy teacher who can inspire, support, and challenge students as they develop an understanding of world history, including Advanced Placement (AP) courses. A faculty member who enjoys the collegiality and warmth of a smaller school where teachers also serve as advisors and mentors and get to know every student on an individual basis.

Essential Job Responsibilities:
  • Implements curricula according to Menaul and state standards, as well as AP guidelines
  • Works with colleagues across the Social Sciences department (Upper and Middle School) to align content
  • Builds classroom environment conducive to student learning and inquiry, including projects, lectures, activities, and regular formative and summative assessments
  • Provides timely feedback to students on their assignments
  • Differentiates instruction to ensure students all continually progress to meet goals
  • Maintains at all times regular records of student performance and attendance
  • Serves as an advisor to students as they progress through high school
  • Regularly attends staff meetings and in-service training activities/professional development
  • Develops professionally on an independent basis through workshops, trainings, conferences
  • Maintains appropriate contact with students, academic advisors, and parents
  • Complies with Menaul School Employee Standards of Conduct, upholds and enforce rules, administrative directives and school policies
Minimum Requirements for Application:
  1. Bachelor's degree from a regionally or internationally accredited college or university in History, Geography, Sociology, Anthropology, Political Science, or Education
  2. Ability to maintain high level of professionalism regarding students, staff, parents, and school matters
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Experience, and Abilities:
  1. Master's degree from a regionally or internationally accredited college or university in relevant field
  2. Two years of teaching experience in a high-school setting
  3. Independent school experience
  4. US state-level teaching certification in specified field, or other accredited state or national teacher certification, e.g. UK Qualified Teacher Status, Board Certified Teacher
  5. Effective classroom management techniques
  6. Positive relationship with administration, faculty, students
  7. Membership in a professional organization such as the National Council for the Social Studies, American Historical Association, National Council for Geographic Education, etc.
