Job Summary

We are currently seeking an Electrical Engineer – Journeyman to support product development, sustainment, integration and modernization for Department of Homeland Security equipment used at border crossings and airports. This position is located in Sterling, VA.


In this position, the successful candidate will:

  • Research, develop, design and test electrical/electronic systems, components, equipment, and network.
  • Perform engineering research and analysis.
  • Adapts and applies control theory to design electrical/electronic systems with desired behaviors.
  • Designs, develops, installs, and supervises all aspects of test systems and processes.
  • Determines design approaches and parameters.
  • Analyzes equipment to establish operating data, conducts experimental tests, and evaluates results.
  • Selects components and equipment based on analysis of specifications and reliability.
  • Researches, develops, and applies tools, simulations, and models of electric power systems and components addressing problems in planning, operations, economics, resilience, and optimization of system performance.
Responsibilities
  • Performs moderately complex assignments by compiling and evaluating design and test data, preparing technical specifications, analyzing technical data to determine appropriate limits and variables for product, process or materials specifications.
  • Interprets, compiles and analyzes data collected and writes various technical reports.
  • Completes assigned project work within schedule and budget constraints.
  • Builds relationships with internal clients.
  • Supports business development efforts led by others.
  • Setup test environment. Support test activities. Extract and prepare data for analysis.
  • Prepares engineering drawings and design diagrams.
  • Troubleshoots and prepares equipment for test.
  • Creates test procedures, operating instructions, maintenance instructions.
  • Follows safety, security, quality, configuration management and operating policies and procedures.
Key Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field with 2 years of experience or master’s degree in related field; or an equivalent combination of education and or experience in a related field.
  • Experience that demonstrates solving complex technical problems associated with engineering and scientific activities.
  • Ability to follow complex written or oral instructions accurately and efficiently.
  • Candidates should be highly motivated self-starters with a strong desire to learn.
  • The ability to regularly lift up to 50lbs, and to stage heavy equipment and test articles.
  • Eligibility and willingness to obtain a Secret Clearance and DHS Suitability.
  • Must be US Citizen
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in one or more of the following technologies: License Plate Reader (LPR), Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) systems, digital signage, kiosks, biometrics, mobile technologies, artificial intelligence, IoT, Wireless communications, imaging systems, camera analytics, non-intrusive inspection equipment.
  • Agile development process.
  • Active Secret Clearance.
  • Active DHS or CBP Suitability.
