The Weapon Physics Group currently consists of scientists and engineers performing research and development in the areas of physics-based modeling and simulation, weapons effects, conventional munitions fuzing technology, detonation physics, and model optimization. The team uses various numerical tools to gain insight into complex physical phenomena and develop predictive modeling and simulation capabilities. Key customers include the US Air Force as well as other DoD clients. Physics Based Modeling and Simulation Engineer Essential Functions:

  • Physics-based analysis of weapon effects using DoD and DoE Multiphysics software.
  • Model development and optimization using AI/ML, statistical, and traditional approaches.
  • Creating or enhancing methodologies for engineering-level lethality/vulnerability tools.
  • Software development related to modeling and simulation frameworks.

 Physics Based Modeling and Simulation Engineer Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in physics, mathematics, engineering, or a related discipline
  • Master’s degree or 2-3 years of experience is preferred.
  • S. Citizenship: all applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must be able to acquire and maintain a DoD security clearance.

Physics Based Modeling and Simulation Engineer Required Skills: 

  • Experience with applied scientific computing.
  • Experience with Python programming, including NumPy, SciPy, Pandas, and other scientific computing libraries.
  • Experience with C++ and standard software development practices.
  • The successful candidate will demonstrate the following behaviors:

 Additional Consideration for:

  • Experience with Linux OS and high-performance computing.
  • Experience with AI/ML research libraries such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, etc.
  • Experience with developing finite element analysis (FEA) or computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software/codes.
