The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, in collaboration with UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, is recruiting an experienced board-certified orthopedic surgeon, at the Associate or Full Professor level, with sub-specialty fellowship training in Pediatric Orthopaedics or adolescent spinal deformity to take on the role of Chief of Pediatric Orthopaedics at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. An Endowered Chair in Pediatric Orthopaedics is an option depending on the candidate. The ideal candidate is a demonstrated leader who is capable of developing a clinical practice, growing the program, and expanding our research efforts. Active participation in resident/fellowship and medical student education is essential.

One of the nation's top orthopedic programs, the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery offers a wide range of specialty services, uses innovative techniques, and conducts vital research. With over 70 full-time surgeons, clinicians, and researchers and more than 45 volunteer faculty, our nationally recognized experts focus on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of musculoskeletal injuries for both adults and children. Thousands of patients turn to us each year for high-quality, comprehensive care and innovative services.

Ranked #6 on US News & World Report’s ‘Best Children’s Hospital’s Honor Roll, UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of is a large, primary, and tertiary center for all areas of pediatric medicine including orthopedics. UPMC Children's is a Level 1 trauma center serving Pittsburgh and the entire tri-state area. The Division of Pediatric Orthopaedics currently consists of eight full-time surgeons and also staffs the Shriners Children’s Erie Unit in Erie, Pennsylvania. Over 2,000 surgical procedures and 35,000 outpatient visits occurred at CHP alone in the last year. The Division currently has robust activity in Spine, Sports, Trauma, Neuromuscular, and Adolescent Hip pathology.

Qualified physician applicants should have a significant interest and ability in clinical care, teaching, and research. Candidates should possess strong clinical, interpersonal, analytical, and writing skills, as well as a history of scholarly publications and presentations, and evidence of interest in and involvement in research.

Minimal Qualifications Include:

A medical degree from an accredited medical school;
Completion of an accredited orthopaedic residency training program;
Completion of a pediatric orthopaedic or adolescent spine fellowship program;
Eligibility for licensure in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania;
Board certification in orthopaedic surgery.
