The BHIP Program Manager is responsible for the implementation and oversight of the BHIP Teams. This individual has multiple BHIP Teams with Team Leads that report to them (either directly or through dotted lines). The BHIP Program Manager is a supervisory position that supervises staff in the BHIP Teams. The BHIP Program Manager is a Psychiatrist and supervises directly or indirectly through a subordinate. The BHIP Program Manager is provided administrative time to manage BHIP.

Maintain overall responsibility for the BHIP teams and the delivery of outpatient general mental care. Report directly to the Chief of MHS.
Supervise staff members on BHIP. Educate and assist teams in the implementation of various initiatives that impact BHIP. Review daily the # of consults in the BHIP Teams - Data gathered by program specialists daily for this meeting include (a) VISTA "SH Report" that identifies scheduling, pending, and active consults (b) pending consults waiting to be received greater than 2, 5, and 7 days (c) consults that are still in active status at 30, 50, 70, and 90 days (d) encounters greater than 2 days. Work with Ambulatory Care Business Operations (ACBO) Leadership to ensure consults are scheduled and encounters are closed. This is done through informal communication via Teams and email as well as formal meetings (daily Encounter's meeting). Receive or pull daily information about open encounters on the team and share with BHIP Team Leads.
Gather data weekly and disseminate to BHIP Team Leads in weekly Leads Meeting. This data includes (a) consults to teams in previous week (b) 3rd next available appointment for intake and medication management (c) clinic utilization (prior to COVID-19 used measure) (d) VVC numbers (implemented after COVID-19). Pull bimonthly VVC #s for all BHIP Staff and share with staff as well as MH leadership (this was new after COVID-19). Pull every 3-6 months encounters, unique, and productivity for all staff in BHIP and share data with staff and MH leadership.
Supervise personnel who build the clinics for the teams.
Review PCMM for accuracy and any changes that need to be made by the Program Specialist.
Conduct, at least several times a year, a drill down into clinics for BHIP Teams to ensure accuracy.
Receive information from leadership daily about call outs for the team and work with team to help patients be seen or rescheduled.
Clinical Responsibilities:
Clinical services are provided by a physician who has completed residency training in Psychiatry. S/he must be qualified to diagnose, treat, and manage patients with mental illness according to standard, usual, and acceptable methods and techniques. Other duties and responsibilities include:
Performing initial clinical diagnostic examinations and formulating initial treatment plans for patients. The Psychiatrist is expected to have a panel of patients s/he follows on a regular basis and will also see unscheduled patients presenting to the clinic.
Providing medication management services. Provision of psychotherapy services is restricted to clinicians who are trained, certified and credentialed in the provision of VA evidence-based therapy practices.
Coordinating medical care for mental health clinic patients requiring primary care follow up, or specialty medical/surgical consultation.
Providing clinical support, guidance and oversight for the MH services of the CBOC MH staff.
Performing other duties as assigned, including: Supporting a specialty care clinic (E.G. Clozaril, Suboxone), evaluations and medication management in the substance abuse treatment program (including Suboxone), serving in the PTSD program and participating in a research project.
