The University of Texas at Austin High School opened in 1999 as a state-approved Texas virtual school. In recent years, the UTHS District expanded to two online high schools and multiple specialty programs to serve students and partner school educators in Texas and beyond. We’re celebrating 23 years of online education and dedication to our mission to improve outcomes for students, educators, and school districts across Texas and beyond, by creating innovative learning experiences and providing strategic support.

Purpose

Coordinate professional development courses and programs to promote district training and development goals and support educators in partner school districts by marketing programs, designing courses, leading instruction, and performing business processes.

This position requires reporting to work on the UT Austin main campus, however currently the UT High School District is piloting a hybrid remote schedule with three days on campus and two days remote. This position requires remote internet access.

Responsibilities

  • Design online and face-to-face professional development courses to support a variety of educator roles such as teachers, administrators, and counselors. Develop professional development for a variety of strategies in instruction, student support, best practices, and leadership topics in areas such as Gifted/Talented, Advanced Placement, Blended Learning, and Project-Based Learning. Utilize best practices for professional development lesson design to engage participants. Prepare lessons utilizing Canvas LMS, Zoom, and other technology tools, remaining up-to-date in current educational technology applications. Prepare conference presentations aligned to current needs for educators and school districts.

  • Lead instruction of professional development courses in a variety of delivery models including on-site, remote asynchronous, remote synchronous, and blended instructional delivery models. Provide timely and effective feedback to students tailored to their individual needs and considering their school context. Grade participant submissions, facilitate online and in-person discussions, and utilize a variety of best practices to facilitate engaging professional development. Measure outcomes and revise and refine delivery to support and improve participant success. Deliver conference presentations in a variety of formats and in collaboration with colleagues.

  • Register, monitor progress, and provide support to students enrolled in professional development courses. Utilize Skyward SIS, Mishell SIS, Canvas Catalog SIS, UT Box, CVENT, MySchoolBucks, and a variety of registration and tracking systems. Support instructional leads and participants in the Advanced Placement Summer Institutes, individual courses, and partner school cohort course sessions. Prepare progress reports, certificates of completion, surveys, and data analysis reports using a variety of technology systems, such as Qualtrics, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and other tools. Organize resources, align purchases to planned budget, and prepare purchase requests for materials. Set up classrooms for presenters by organizing materials, scheduling rooms, moving materials, and providing technology support.

  • Engage in marketing and outreach to promote enrollment in professional development courses. Align content to educators’ needs and adjust to key topics based on changing school environment and legislative priorities. Prepare marketing materials and communications for programs including print, email, social media, webinars, and website. Lead and support project management for program planning, timelines, activities, training, ordering materials, and reporting to align with organizational goals and achieve target outcomes.

  • Participate as a collaborative member of the UT High School District and contribute to a variety of District and University programs and services. Collaborate with internal and external partners. Travel to conferences and school districts to present professional development, market programs, and support UT High School programs. Deliver trainings and presentations, and prepare reports as needed for a variety of programs. Attend to details and plan ahead to meet deadlines. Support positive culture and climate for students, staff, and partners. Participate on the District Professional Development Committee to plan trainings for staff to ensure opportunities are offered in a variety of key areas with attention to budget and equity. Travel approximately 15% of time to support District initiatives such as STAAR testing, marketing and presenting sessions at conferences and in school districts in Texas. This may include occasional evening or weekend hours.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Education or a closely related field. Texas Teacher certification in a secondary course subject. Three years of experience working in leadership roles in an educational setting. Three years of experience working as a teacher or other professional educator role with secondary level students. Demonstrated ability as a successful educator who has achieved positive results for on-level, gifted and advanced students, and students with special needs. Multiple experiences designing and delivering professional development to educators in gifted or advanced academics or blended learning strategies. Experience designing curriculum and instruction for secondary level courses and assessments. Knowledge of Advanced Placement and Dual Credit pathways and best practices in gifted and advanced education. Three years experience in a leadership role in gifted or advanced academics or blended learning. Completion of the 30-hour Gifted and Talented Academy and annual 6-hour updates. Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills. Strong skills in project management and collaboration. Professional demeanor. Ability to travel approximately 15% of time, including overnight for a few days for conferences, remote/regional activities for students, and outreach to school districts.

Preferred Qualifications

Masters degree or above in Educational Leadership, Curriculum and Instruction, Instructional Technology, Educational Psychology, or a related field. Administrator certification. Texas Teacher certification in a secondary level core subject. Experience teaching AP courses or instructing AP Summer Institutes. More than three years experience in a leadership position at a campus or school district. More than three years experience teaching high school Advanced Placement or Dual Credit courses. Experience managing curriculum development for secondary level courses. Experience supervising teachers or staff. More than three years of experience presenting professional development at schools, districts, or conferences for secondary level educators. Experience with budget management and state reporting requirements. In-depth understanding of the TEKS, Texas graduation requirements, and Texas Education Agency school policies. Extensive knowledge of best practices in curriculum design and instructional strategies that promote student success.

Salary Range

$62,000+ depending on qualifications
