The Information Technology (IT) Specialist (Applications Software) performs a mixture of routine and multiple and varying assignments under the limited direction of a manager, project/program manager, team leader, or more experienced technical specialist. Acts as an individual contributor and/or member of a team to support the architecture and development of SharePoint solutions, innovative applications to enhance operational workflows, and leveraging automation to drive efficiency gains.
Applies experience and detailed technical knowledge of the design, documentation, development, modification, testing, installation, implementation, and support of new or existing applications software to plan and accomplish assignments. Possesses understanding of the software development life-cycle, including requirements analysis, design, testing, integration, deployment, and maintenance. Applies troubleshooting and analytical skills when interacting with stakeholders to diagnose and resolve issues while maintaining the confidentiality of information. Engages in continuous learning to stay current with latest technologies and standards involving web development to accomplish organizational objectives.
Collects, records, and analyzes information to assists more experience specialists with the designs and developments of software solutions including applications, web parts, features, content types, and other constructs. Assists in customizing commercial off the shelf (COTS) solutions to meet government customer needs and requirements; ensures the delivery of application software services conforms to policies, principles, and practices. Work with customers at all levels of technical ability to assist with requirements, customization, and development of intranet or internet sites.
Assists with SharePoint administration, future enhancements, service packs/updates and upgrades, and best practices for maintaining the environments. Assists in customizes and optimizes SharePoint Online sites, incorporating modern web parts. Analyzes systems requirements to support the redefining and translating requirements into application models.
Collects and analyzes system data to aid in the design of data models in Dataverse or similar technologies for ensuring data integrity and performance. Performs investigation and inspections activities of new and emerging developments in the web services area. Assists in the planning and coordinating of testing, modification, and implementation of tested technologies.
Demonstrates some independence in planning time and using assigned resources to accomplish assignments and small projects. Works collaboratively with a team or individually on assigned projects to meet deadlines and deliverables. Established policies/procedures provide guidance for most assignments but allow some discretion to select the most appropriate approach. Typically receives guidance on selecting approach from a manager, project/program manager, team leader, or more experienced technical specialist. May provide recommendations to improve work processes.
Contacts are primarily internal to the organizational unit, major subdivision, and ATO, with some contact with customers and external organizations. Contacts are typically intended to share information, provide data and/or written analyses, and discuss the statuses of assignments. In some technical areas, may have regular contact with customers and/or external organizations.
Established policies/procedures provide guidance for most assignments but allow some discretion to select the most appropriate approach. Regularly refers problems and work issues to a manager, project/program manager, team leader, or more experienced technical specialist.
