Description

Who We Are

Founded in 1926, the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation is a private, not-for-profit educational, historic, and cultural institution that owns and operates one of the largest and best-known museum complexes in the world. Our mission is “that the future may learn from the past” through preserving and restoring 18th-century Williamsburg, Virginia’s colonial capital. We engage, inform, and inspire people to learn about this historic capital, the events that occurred here, and the diverse peoples who helped shape a new nation. Today, Colonial Williamsburg is the largest living history museum in the U.S. The Historic Area is the 301-acre restored colonial capital with 88 original buildings and 525 buildings reconstructed to how they appeared in the 18th century through extensive archaeological, architectural, and documentary research. The Historic Area is staffed by highly trained, historically dressed interpreters and expert tradespeople who bring the 18th century to life. The Foundation also owns and operates two world-class museums, the DeWitt Wallace Decorative Arts Museum, and the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art Museum, and a renowned research library, the John D Rockefeller Jr Library. Additionally, Colonial Williamsburg is home to five world class accommodations at the Williamsburg Inn, Williamsburg Lodge Autograph Collection, the Griffin Hotel, the Williamsburg Woodlands Hotels and Suites and the unique Colonial Houses in the Historical Area. Visitors may also indulge in food and drink at our many on site restaurants and taverns that blend a historically inspired dining experience with today’s evolved tastes. Each year over 5 million people visit Williamsburg and another 20 million engage with us digitally.

About the Position

The primary function of the Warehouse Worker is to process stock material requests, either system-generated or in-person counter requests, from various CWF or CWC staff for warehouse stock items and to fulfill such requests by pulling stock from its assigned storage bins or locations and turning it over to the requester. In connection with the above, the Warehouse Worker 1 performs or assists in receiving, sorting and storing new inventory, taking such steps as may be required for inventory control, all of which is done using computerized inventory and bar-coding systems.

Essential Functions:

Creates or assists in creating system-generated material requests for stock inventory on behalf of internal warehouse customers. Processes material requests including picking stock from storage bins or areas using bar-code scanners to record itemized transactions; this and the next bullet imply manning the warehouse counter and responding to and/or processing inventory transactions face-to-face. Responds to counter issue requests from internal employees who are unable for whatever reason to remotely generate material requests and must go to the warehouse in person to obtain the stock materials they need. Loads or unloads trucks with stock inventory items requisitioned by internal employees or delivered by suppliers for stock replenishment. Completes paperwork as required to maintain proper inventory control. Operates smaller forklifts with a lifting capacity of up to 5,000 pounds and pallet jacks of various sizes on smooth or paved surfaces. Operates smaller cargo van to make deliveries of requisitioned materials. Counts or assists in counting warehouse stock during physical inventory procedures.

Qualifications:

Good communication and customer service skills. Experience in stock inventory control policies and procedures, beyond working at a warehouse counter, is preferable.

Required and Preferred Education & Experience:

Required:

Minimum requirements include having a high school diploma or G. E. D. and an ability to understand and perform very basic arithmetic. Must be able to read and write at levels necessary for understanding written instructions and for communicating with internal customers face-to-face.

Preferred:

Must have a valid driver’s license. Must be able to drive small- or medium-sized trucks. Must have at least one year’s experience working in a warehouse inventory environment and must have experience operating a small forklift of approximately 5,000-pound capacity. Must be able to obtain an internal certification as a forklift operator within thirty days of being hired. Must be able to lift 75 pounds.
