JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE:

 Assist the Pilot Plant and Engineering Group in the evaluation, modification, experimentation, and development of mineral processing technology and new products. Prepare samples, perform routine and minor equipment maintenance and fabrications, performs laboratory tests, and analyzes data.

JOB SCOPE/DIMENSIONS:

The Pilot Plant Operator Technician II is a key operations support role that is required to work with all departments within the Talc organization.

KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Reads Operation and Maintenance manuals and follows instructions to operate Pilot Plant equipment and new test equipment under supervision. Understands theory of operation of current processing equipment. Mechanical skills to maintain and repair (minor) Pilot Plant equipment. Knowledge of steel fabrication and express interest in steel fabrication. Communicates with Magris Talc employees on a daily basis to relay needs. Participates and is trained on all Safety Management Systems. Able to work unsupervised on a very limited basis. Keeps notes and process data in lab logs/workbooks and electronic forms. Possesses good housekeeping habits and maintains a clean work environment. Possess good organization, scheduling and prioritizing habits. Possesses basic computer skills such as Windows, Email, Word and Excel. Holds a current driver's license. Understands mathematics to the extent to calculate various percentage loading of additives to produce a given mixture specification. Follows and performs various laboratory test procedures and LSTMs (i.e. sedigraph, screen, Hegman bar, Zeta meter, Malvern Laser Analyzer etc.). Performs basic manual labor when asked (shoveling, scooping, cleaning etc.). Must be able to lift 50 lbs. waist high. Performs other duties as required for the efficient operation of the facility. Willing to travel to Magris Talc locations on an as needed basis. Self-motivated working without supervision with a positive and upbeat attitude willing to change work direction as needed.

OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS:

 Must be able to safely operate all types of milling, packaging and mobile equipment. Outdoor work in all weather conditions.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience requirements:

 High school diploma or GED. Trade school graduate preferable, but not required. Minimum of 4-5 years of plant operator experience in industrial environment, preferably milling or mining.

Knowledge, skills, abilities and other characteristics:

 Must have good communication and interpersonal skills. Dedication to working in a safe environment. Ability to operate mixing, milling and mobile equipment. Demonstrates proficiency and confidence using computer controlled HMI (human-machine interface). Computer Skills - Microsoft office Understands basic operating principles of milling and classifying equipment. Basic troubleshooting and problem solving skills. Basic maintenance skills with hand tools. Fabrication and electrical wiring knowledge are a plus. Basic understanding of math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages and ratios.
