Summary

 

The Head of Body Contouring Device Aesthetics is responsible for leading the medical device pipeline for Aesthetic Device Energy-Based Systems and directing Device R&D teams and facilities in Pleasanton, CA. The incumbent is responsible for the R&D strategic oversight and development leadership of our Body Contouring (Energy-based systems such as Resonic, Coolsculpting, and CoolTone), and Diamond Glow businesses.

This role will participate as a member of the Device Aesthetics R&D Leadership Team, reporting into the VP, R&D Aesthetics Device, and will will lead the Body Contouring R&D team in 3 key areas:

Guiding long-term strategic and technology roadmap for the Body Contouring energy-based device franchise requiring a leader capable of identifying future customer needs and innovative product solutions and supporting senior business development and marketing personnel to provide technical expertise, evaluation and strategy related to external technology opportunities for Allergan Aesthetics. Through management of high-functioning technical teams to meet complex product requirements and aggressive timelines. The Head of Body Contouring provides strategic and functional expertise in support of key business strategies, ensuring competent and empowered resources are provided to Global Project and Asset Strategy Teams. They will also create a culture of empowerment, while developing and mentoring functional resources to support business objectives. This role has leadership oversight and responsibility for talent development for over 60 FTEs, across specialized scientific/technical areas within the Device R&D organization. This role will lead and develop software engineers, product development engineers, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, cross functional team roles & other R&D roles, all while ensuring the team meets timeline and financial targets. As a technical and subject matter expert, supporting the Body Contouring franchise through effective internal executive communication and external customers and KOLs. In collaboration with Marketing and Sales, the incumbent will represent Allergan Aesthetics and AbbVie at workshops, symposia, trade shows and conferences supporting on market products, as relevant. She/he will also interact and liaise with external content experts, KOLs, Customers as the strategic face for R&D in the Body Contouring franchise.


Qualifications

 

Ph.D. in Science or Engineering; and a minimum of 13-15 years of leadership experience in medical devices with at least three years in a site leader management capacity; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrated ability to build and lead high performing global teams required. Broad experience in research and development for energy-based medical device engineering and biology/biomaterials compatibility. Knowledge of aesthetics is preferred. Track record of bringing innovative medical devices from concept through development and validation to the marketplace in US, Europe, and Asia. In depth understanding of US and international regulatory requirements for electromechanical medical devices.
