Job Description

The Communications Engineer fills a crucial role in supporting day-to-day intercom communication needs of remote productions, remote intercom users, remote facilities and Olympics as well as remote support of the Stamford Sports facility.

Responsibilities:

  • Travel to remote cities and productions when necessary to support and operate intercom-based Communications.
  • Provide from-home support for remote productions as well as remote users of intercom hardware.
  • Participate in the planning and design of the communication needs for remote productions as well as our Stamford Production Facility.
  • Perform system level troubleshooting of remote facilities and mobile units, including but not limited to, communications systems, studio equipment, audio equipment, network technology and related systems associated with those areas.
  • Interface with Operations and Production personnel to ensure their communications needs are being met and understood while defining and implementing technical solutions to meet production initiatives.
  • Provide from-home and sometimes in-person Operational communications support for productions produced from our Stamford Sports Facility.
  • Travel to Olympic cities as part of the NBC Olympics Comms team to launch and support Remote intercom communications for the NBC Olympics.


Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

  • Minimum five (5) years of recent experience in a television broadcast environment or combination of education/experience.
  • Minimum five (5) years of recent experience with RTS Matrix-based intercoms.
  • Thorough understanding and experience with RTS ADAM, ODIN, Trunking, RVON and OMNEO technologies is a must.
  • Thorough understanding of audio processing, signal flow, both analog and digital including but not limited to MADI, Dante, AES-67, ST-2110 and VoIP technologies.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with the programming and management of RTS ADAM and ODIN Matrix intercoms. This includes working with RTS applications AZedit, IPedit, TrunkEdit, Trunk Supervisor and ResEdit.
  • Solid understanding of Network (IT) components, topology and function is a must.
  • Ability to read and understand system signal flow diagrams.
  • Knowledge of general audio and video for teleproduction technologies and processes.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. Position requires a cool, levelheaded individual who works well under the pressures of "live" television.
  • Hands-on, problem-solving skills with broadcast-related equipment and systems.
  • Understanding of the urgent needs of the on-air Sports environment; ability to stay focused and productive in a fast-paced environment with constantly changing assignments.
  • Ability to support 24x7 production environment.
  • Strong customer focus.
  • The ability to work alone and in a team environment with fellow engineers, Operations, IT and other departments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication as well as diplomacy skills.
  • Extensive travel will be required when supporting remote productions on-site. Traveling work would account for approximately 50-70% of this position.
