The Opportunity

Leads small to medium projects.   May facilitate, develop or recommend improvements and/or new procedures related to products or processes. Gives instructions and follows up to ensure completion and compliance from others. Presents scientific observations to  management team level areas within Abbott.

What You'll Work On

  • Conducts experiments independently, accomplishes established milestones and summarizes data, interprets results and draws conclusions for next step activities.
  • Recommends options for other project approaches or experiments leveraging patents and scientific literature. Can identify risks and provides technical rationale for recommendations.
  • Possesses knowledge and exercises judgement to detect problems and identify risks; provides technical rationale for recommendations.
  • Recognizes and independently resolves basic to intermediate technical problems; evaluates options for complex experimental problems; utilizes analytical instruments.
  • CFT member participates in project planning, updates and process improvements.  Executes project plans comprehending resource.  Able to source key inputs to develop comprehensive timelines and assess impacts.
  • May plan projects of moderate complexity under limited to no supervision. Defines goals, develops timelines, and comprehends resource requirements.
  • May be part of team responsible for submitting ideas for inventions, patent filings and/or scientific publications.
  • Participates in lab safety.
  • Appropriately documents experimental procedures and results according to established guidelines.
  • Responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality system.
  • Does not have any direct reports but may coach junior-level scientists.

Required Qualifications

  • B.S in biological or physical sciences, or mathematics; with 6 + years of progressively responsible positions in a research development environment. biological or physical sciences, or mathematicsâ OR M.S.with minimum of 4 years experience  OR Ph.D. with 0 to 2 years experience.
  • Independent design of experimental approaches/protocols and scientific methods such as designing experiments and interpreting data.
  • Knowledge/use of regulations and standards affecting IVDs and Biologics
  • Basic computer skills - able to learn new computer programs

The base pay for this position is $83,600.00 â $167,200.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
