The Dartmouth Cancer Center (DCC) is one of only 53 NCI-Designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers and the only one north of Boston and east of Buffalo. DCC was originally named for the late Senator Norris Cotton, who represented New Hampshire in the United States Congress from 1947 to 1974 and was instrumental in securing a $3M federal grant in 1970 to build rural New England's first regional cancer center. DCC achieved its NCI designation in 1978 and its Comprehensive status in 1990. In 2022, DCC assumed its new name as part of the rebranding effort by parent institution Dartmouth-Hitchcock Health, now Dartmouth Health. DCC is committed to providing access to research-based, high-quality care, advanced technologies, and clinical trials for patients throughout northern New England. Its research, clinical care, and training are integrated at the Cancer Center with priority on translation of innovation, interdisciplinary care, team science, and career development. DCC is an active partner with the CDC-funded New Hampshire Comprehensive Cancer Collaboration and Dartmouths CDC-funded Prevention Research Center.
