Parkview Geriatric Wellness (PVGW) is a geriatric behavioral unit licensed for 20 bed, currently serving the community with 15 beds. We are located inside the main hospital and work closely with the other departments in the hospital. Parkview Wellness see a wide range of mental health patients, including dementia, bipolar, schizophrenia, personality disorders and depression. Parkview is a short term placement, most patient's length of stay is 7 days. Parkview Wellness is a specialty unit and trains staff in the art of de-escalation. Staff will also be trained in proper safety holds. We are focused on safety in the Wellness unit, our nurse to patient ratio is 1:8 with one core tech on both sides of the unit and a float teach, who helps both sides of the unit.
Assessing the mental and physical status of the patient, admissions, discharges, referrals, medication administration, completing specialized psychological testing on the patients and a running daily behavior note that is placed in the chart every shift. These notes are a vital part of patient care as the providers use them to make the treatment plans. The nurse will have ample opportunity to interact with the patients throughout the shift, including participating and encouraging patients to interact in group activities. This is rewarding career path, with opportunity to grow as a nurse on the unit
