What you'll be challenged to do: Cleveland, Ohio office has an immediate opening for a Bridge Inspection Practice Leader. The successful candidate for this position will be a qualified NBIS Bridge Inspection Team Leader who will be responsible for leading the firm’s bridge inspection efforts throughout the State of Ohio. Duties will include performing and serving as the project manager for bridge inspection projects with tasks including, but not limited to: planning bridge inspections; coordinating staff, subconsultants and equipment suppliers; coordinating traffic control; client coordination; and directing inspection report preparation. This role will also include identifying future projects and positioning the firm for selection; as well as preparing qualifications packages, technical proposals and cost proposals in the pursuit of future projects. Additional duties may include the performance of structural design/analysis, preparation of load rating reports, construction documents, project specifications, and quantity/cost estimates. We have a National Bridge Inspection Practice, and the successful candidate will have the opportunity to work at the National level for transportation agency clients in states across the country, including Michigan, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Massachusetts, Maine, Connecticut, New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Texas, and California. The right candidate will be enthusiastic and passionate about focusing on the inspection and evaluation of in-service bridges. There are also opportunities to be trained and/or join our growing National Rope Access Team and to be involved in our UAS (drone) inspection program. General duties include, but are not limited to performing and/or managing staff in the following tasks: Managing and performing bridge inspection assignments on complex and signature structures. Documenting clear and detailed inspection findings. Reviewing or preparing concise structure inspection evaluation reports. Planning and preparation for bridge inspections . Scheduling and coordinating field operations with subcontractors and subconsultants Performing load rating analyses. Participating in bridge design assignments involving contract plan preparation and specifications, design calculations, calculation of quantities and development of cost estimates. Being responsible for accuracy of engineering design, reports, load ratings, and plans, quality presentation, thoroughness and follow-through, and efficient conformance to budgets, schedules, and company standards. Preparing qualifications proposals. Preparing scope of work documents, cost proposals and labor-hour estimates. Preparing project safety plans and quality control plans. Qualifications What you bring to our firm: Bachelor’s degree in civil and/or structural engineering with an emphasis in structures from an ABET-accredited university or college. Registration as a licensed Professional Engineer in Ohio. Completion of the following: NHI Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges (FHWA-NHI-130055) and NHI Fracture Critical Inspection Techniques for Steel Bridges (FHWA-NHI-130078). Experience as a Bridge Inspection Team Leader for Ohio DOT owned bridges, with minimum of 10 years of total bridge inspection experience. Team oriented engineer with strong communication skills. Experience and training for the operation of bucket trucks, manlifts, and under bridge inspection vehicles. Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.). Individuals should have experience in reading plans and shop drawings and evaluating contractor compliance with construction plans and specifications. Be eager to learn, be a team player and be enthusiastic. Exhibit a commitment to quality work and timely communication. What we’d prefer for you to bring to our firm: Experience with engineering software packages such as MicroStation, AASHTOWare BrR. Staad.Pro, MDX, MathCAD, LUSAS and/or other software systems.
