Breast/Diagnostic Sonographer

Burlington VT, United States The University of Vermont Health Network Full time

We are the heart and science of medicine. We are UVM Medical Center.

We are looking for an exceptional Sonographer to join a team of patient-centered professionals who have a culture of caring for each other while providing an excellent patient experience. Join us as a full time Sonographer with the Ultrasound Team and enjoy the benefits and career growth that this world-class academic medical center has to offer – right in the heart of gorgeous Burlington, VT.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Staff Sonographer performs a variety of routine and complex imaging procedures using high frequency sound waves.

  • Since ultrasound can be degraded or blocked by various tissues and materials including lung, bowel gas and bone, obtaining a sonogram is a tailored examination requiring technical skill to adjust the machine, experience to find appropriate "windows" that can transmit an undistorted ultrasound beam, and diagnostic knowledge to obtain extra images customized to the diagnosis of concern and to abnormalities seen while obtaining the basic image set.

  • This need to heavily customize the examination to each patient and to recognize and diagnose pathology separates the sonographer from other imaging technologists in radiology.

The Staff Sonographer performs diagnostic ultrasounds and other required modalities within individual department(s). Examinations are performed independently, under physician supervision, and with peer collaboration as is appropriate.

EDUCATION:

  • High school graduate or equivalent.

  • Graduate of a certified CAAHEP school of Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Radiologic Technology or a two year allied health equivalent.

  • Active ARDMS registration in Breast preferred, with expectation of registration within one year of hire.

EXPERIENCE:

One - five years paid scanning experience.

We are also open to new grads and Sonographers who have additional experience and training. Please apply today and we can discuss these exciting opportunities

LOCATION:

T his position will rotate between diagnostic and breast imaging (all sites) on a regular basis.

HOURS:

7:30am-4pm is primary weekday shift. Weekend rotation of every third weekend. Weekend shift times vary from standard weekday shift hours, and shifts may be scheduled for 3pm-11pm, 7am-7pm, or 11am-11pm. Diagnostic ultrasound holiday rotation requirements per contract.
